Excellent! Makes me feel guilty about the state of mine. What was the pocket for?

I look at my old film cameras and wonder what adventures they had been through in the many decades of existing before entering my hands. It's why I prefer equipment that looks like it has a story to tell and not mint collector pieces sitting in a closet their whole lives.

Probably for either a spare battery or the eyepiece cover for long exposures.

Thank you for the confirmation, didn’t have a copy of the manual handy.

Pablo beat me to it but here is the english version of the manual
Page 18

I can confirm it is NOT for another film roll
Are we supposed to read instructions and manuals? I'm confused

Thanks,

I haven't looked at the manual in a long time, but it is still in the original ASAHI PENTAX plastic bag, and has the price list from SUGA photographic (Duty free) from Tokyo
My dad kept it very carefully, and so have I

Talk about throwback Thursday
This is what my dad had in the plastic bag.
Look at the price list, where the prices are written in pencil (Dollars).
The camera (SP+55/1.8+case) costed 42,700 Yen ($142);
SMC 17/4 32,000 Y ($106)
SMC 200/4 23,900 Y ($62),
auto-helicoid 2,700 Y ($9)
There is neat Japanese numbers is an offer for $270 with bag and flash which is the equipment I grew up with.

Thanks for making me open this! is awesome!

Love that Asahi plastic bag!
Cool stuff. Thanks for sharing!

The cover of the price list has a Minolta, either SRT101 or SRT100 (101 goes before 100. What's wrong with camera manufacturers and sequences? )
From what I understand The ES was launched in '71 and so was the Super Lite II. And the Minolta SRT100 as well.
Does the catalog references the SPII or the SP500? Those were also in '71 but probably later.

Thanks,

The SUGA photo price list is from May 1972.
I believe it is a SRT-101 as that is on the back cover.

The Pentax page (as above) has only
ES - SP - SL and 6x7; lenses and accesories
No mention of the SPII even though the flash brochure (yellow brichure) mentions it already

This is a wonderful tale. I have a similar experience both coming and going. I bought a K1000 in 1984 at a pawn shop out side Great Lakes Naval Training Center. I don't know who owned it before me. I sold it to a shipmate, who still has it this many years later. That little camera went all over the world.

Conversely, I bought another K1000 2 years ago off eBay. It was part of an estate sale, and came as a complete kit. It was untested but looked like it was in great shape so for 38 USD including shipping I took a chance. The camera came with "Jim T." written on the bag, clipped articles on photography, numerous hand written notes, the owner's manual which was also written on with various points and reminders, and a roll of partly exposed film in the body.

I rolled up the film, contacted the seller, who as it stands was friends with the son of the man that owned the camera. The roll was sent to the son. Out of curiosity, I asked the seller what was on the roll. Apparently it was a Christmas morning.

On one hand I'm happy that I was able to return the roll of film and childhood memories to the surviving family. On the other hand, I'm sad for this K1000 because I suspect Jim had received a new camera that Christmas and forgot about his old camera.

We all get distracted by new toys. Every so often I use one of my ME Supers. The ME Super was my first camera and I shot many, many rolls of film with it. When I use one, everything is so automatic, engrained in my muscle memory.

The ME Super is may favorite DSLR just because of where the shutter speed buttons sit in relationship to my right hand. It's easy to program that routine into my head so much so that I try to do that with other (D)SLRs.

Hello,

Going out to play!

The meter is not working properly as it is all over the place and erratic. That was actually the main reason it was upgraded in the 80's. So I'll rely on sunny 16 and will also test an old Gossen Pilot 2.

Thanks,
