New Member .... hello all

Hi All:

I'm Gord. I've been a member here for a several months now, but this is my first post. I've been lurking around quietly and enjoying reading the posts in this forum. I probably should have posted in the New Members section, but my primary interest is Film Cameras so I thought I'd jump in right here.

I'd been a Canon user in past, but my T70 failed me, and I'd inherited my father's Pentax ME. I really like the ME, but wanting to preserve it, I bought a K1000 a couple of years ago. The K1000 is my go-to camera these days. I love its simplicity and it forces me to think about things before I take a photo. I'd strayed into the DSLR world with a Canon Rebel T3i, but I didn't really get into the digital world and returned to film.

I've recently stared to develop most of my B&W stuff myself, but I still have a lot to learn. I use Illford chemicals for now; DD-X for developer. For film, I tend bounce primarily between FP-4 and Tri-X. I usually use Kodak Ultramax for color, but enjoy experimenting with with other types of film stock.

So, that's me. I've got a few questions for the group, but will save those for other posts.

Hi Gord, and welcome to Pentax film cameras. K1000 was my first ever camera in 1981 (still have it). Pentax PZ1P is now my film body to complement my DSLRs allowing me to enjoy Hyper Program and Hyper Manual on everything and share lenses across them all. Have fun!

Welcome Gord. I also love FP4 but for 400 film I alternate between HP5 and Tri-X..... still can't decide after all these years
In case you haven't noticed, there is also a dedicated "film processing, scanning and darkroom" section here on PentaxForums.

Hello and welcome Gord. The canon t70 is a nice , weird 80’s camera. It’s my go to at the moment. In fact I’ve been shooting a Kodak pro foto 400bw these days. I love the Tv mode. Sorry to hear it failed you. I’ll be checking out your film shots with interest!

Welcome. I too love the K1000. When I was a kid I had no interest in them. They looked simplistic. Not high tech enough. I now appreciate the genius of its simplicity and build quality. Now decades later they are very likely to be fully functioning which you can’t say for many of their high tech cousins.

Welcome to the forum! Nice to have you with us.

Back in my film days I was always impressed with Ilford HP5. I could push-process it to ASA 800 and still get finer grain than Tri-X at 400. I just used standard Tri-X chemicals. That was decades ago; not sure the same would be true today.
