the world of lube has change significantly

the stuff used by ricoh on the diacord g was supposed to be serviced and replaced every 10 years.

the stuff canon used at the factory for the ftb line was supposed to be serviced and replaced every 10 years.

had my ricoh serviced couple years ago, the stuff harma used according to him is good for 50 years before i need to have the shutter serviced and re lubed.

Where's a good sperm whale when you need one?

I only recently learned that the sperm whale oil was the really really thin stuff that kept cameras and sewing machines running when everything else gummed them up. Sad, but true.
