Pentax SF1n and AF200FG Flash

Will the Pentax AF200FG Flash work with the Pentax SF1n/SFXn camera in automatic mode?

do not think it is likely as the SF is a TTL body and does not support P-TTL.....purdy sure the 200fg is a P-TTL only flash....but i am not 100% on this

The flash manual says:

About TTL Auto flash mode

With single lens reflex cameras (film cameras) other than PENTAX digital single lens reflex cameras, you can perform auto flash shooting if they support TTL Auto. (However, the 645 format cameras before SF series and of the early type do not support the TTL Auto).

The notes on the accessories page say it will work with old school TTL.

So you should be good.

It obviously won’t do part-power or anything fancy, and it doesn’t seem to work with ‘program’ cameras that lack TTL.

According to the manual it is both P-TTL and TTL capable. http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/support/man-pdf/acc_st_af200fg.pdf. See page 10 of the English language section. So it will woork perfectly with the SFXn as this is a TTL capable camera.

Just tried the camera with two external flashes. The Sigma DG500 Super did fire, the AF200FG didn't.

Even if it doesn’t talk to the camera, it should still fire at full power.

Are you getting a ready indication in the viewfinder?

Yes.

The Sigma DG500 definitely talks to the camera, the zoom works. The manual explicitly says it's compatible with the SF1n. The scans will tell if the exposure was right.
