Rare Film Gear, need help with determining it's value

Hi everyone, I don't shoot with Pentax anymore, but am helping a friend sell his older Pentax film gear that he doesnt use anymore. I only ever shot with Pentax Digital SLR's and never really shot with the Film camera's or researched much background information on them. I need to post these items up for sale but really have no clue what there worth. I do know that the 15mm is extremely rare. I would appreciate any insight possible. Pics below. Thanks alot,

Kyle.

I would take a look at KEH for what they are asking, knowing that a private seller would not get quite that much (or nearly that much in some cases).

I'll give you twenty dollars for it all

I think I've seen the 15/3.5 at around $800, and the LX around 300 or 400. I may be off, though.

I checked KEH prices for your benefit:

- a BGN 15/3.5 is currently listed for $665
- the original pancake 40/2.8 is at $126 for BGN, $159 for EX (with caps), and $199 for EX+ (with caps, also)
- an LX in BGN condition that comes with the FB-1 and action finder FC-1 is at $399
- an MX in EX condition is sitting at $215 right now

You could also check recently completed auctions in eBay for a general gauge of current "street prices" for your items. Good luck to you and your friend in selling that equipment. It should get your friend a pretty penny for all of those.

Just if you are interested, your 15 3.5 is not the rarer and much more valuable aspherical element version because the first division of the distance scale goes from 7 to 3 feet.

Still, it is an amazing and rare lens.

It is also important to know what the working condition of the items is, and whether they are fully functional. Also, i have 3/5 of the items you list here so i'm also very interested to hear how much they are worth.

correct. if it was the AL version it would be marked 'SMC PENTAX 1:3.5/15' it would also use the older style of lettering found on early 'K' series and SMC Takumar lenses. but yes it is still quite rare.

My experiences for these items on eBay:

K15/3.5: 500 to 700
LX w/ drive: 250 to 400 depends on its working condition.
MX: 60 to 150
M40/2.8: 80 to 130
FB1+FC1: 100 t0 200

From the photos of these items, seems they are not in top condition, you'd be lucky if you can sell them at the higher price range. And normally if you wanna sell them here at the forum, you need to mark their prices even lower ('cause you'd save on ebay cost and peace in mind when dealing w/ someone you/we know here).

Thanks for all the responses everyone, really appreciate it. I know that everything is in good working order, for the most part it all looks good as well, there are a few scratches and old tape residue on some items, but it was used quite a bit im sure. Thanks again and I will probably be posting it up for sale soon enough in the forums.

Kyle.

True, that. But it does represent the reasonable ceiling for most used camera goods.

Here is what I've seen for the K and A versions of this lens over the past 5 months.

pentax 15mm f3.5 smc A ebay 4-Aug-08 $650 9 Ca
Pentax 15mm f3.5 SMC A KEH 14-Aug-08 $919 ex Atlanta
Pentax 15mm f3.5 SMC A ebay 26-Aug-08 $744 9/case UK
Pentax 15mm f3.5 smc k ebay 2-Oct-08 $610 9 Korea
Pentax 15mm f3.5 SMC k ebay 28-Dec-08 $595 (shipped) 9++ japan

There was one K vesion like yours listed in the Market place for $800 back in Nov but I don't think it sold. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/photographers-marketplace/41849-rare-lenses-etc.html

In the same time period, I've seen 5 M 40mm go on this site and ebay for $40 to $148 all in ex to LN-. KEH doesn't seem to "move" their M 40mm. Hinman sold a nice one for $50 in mid December.

Actually its not as bad as it looks. There are certain lenses that I keep a watch out for. These just happened to be a couple of them. For example, I used to keep a sharp eye out for the Tamron 63B 180mm f2.5 Adaptall 2. I finally lucked out and got one. I also look out for the Tamron SP 400mm f4 Adaptall2 and no where one is but I'm not willing to pay $1700 for it and the 200F 2x. I also watch the various Tamron 300mm f2.8 and the 17mm. Plus, there are certain Pentax lenses I keep a look out for.

Ahh, Adaptalls. I wish I can share your joy with them, but unfortunately, the Adaptall I got from B&H (28-80 SP) had a sticky aperture and it's still being serviced as I type. Looks to be good investments, though, that's why I tried one.

Still, it's amazing how you can cite those general price ranges from memory. I'm a pretty young guy, but my memory isn't that sharp.
