Mike, great tip!!!! Why didn't I think of that. Most of my usable older cameras are kept in a field case and I tuck the end flap from the film box down inside the bottom half of the case. That way I know what I have in regard to both ASA and type of film.

I make it a practice to assume that any camera might be loaded, if there's a strap on there, and often check by turing the rewind knob, just to be sure. With my memory, I like to maintain habits like that.

I still use the plastic holder on the film door of my MX, just tear off the end of the box that shows film speed and ASA and tuck it in there. with my other camera I do as straightshooter does.

Same here... I also use Ratmagiclady's technique of looking for tension on rewind knob to see if film is loaded.

Setting shutter speed to the ASA of the film loaded before storage is a good idea. Set the camera to "B" if empty.

Hee, as chance would have it, I finally remembered to go and look for some label holders at the office supply store: on cameras too old to have the memo holders, I used to put these stick-on plastic ones designed for the purpose (my FTb still has one from those days, which seem to have become hard to find in intervening decades.)

These aren't the right size, what I bought, but I'm going to give one a try, soon, on a Canonet I'm working on. If anyone's interested (and these don't prove to be just terrible when I open em.) I could even send a few along when the Spottie comes this way. Should be extras.

I have my first roll of Tri-X pushed to ISO800 at the lab. It will be ready on Saturday so I will post some shots then. My trip to San Francisco last weekend got pushed back so I am hoping to get there this weekend before I send the camera off. If not, we will just have to settle for shots of San Jose.

Thanks for the offer. The lab I use is less than a mile away and they develop and scan to CD for very reasonable prices. Every time I look into doing my own developing, I run into the issue of scanning all of the negatives. I just don't have the time.
