Thanks steve. I went to my nearest camera shot today (a little over an hours drive), and there they had batteries produced by
Wein to replace the original Mercury ones. 1.35V and everything. Meter needle is alive with the new batt, but I haven't checked to see if it's telling me reasonable exposures yet.
