Actually I'd say the opposite. I have a *istD as well as a K10D and K20D. The *istD still gets tons of use. Nice and light with very similar controls to the to bigger cameras. It's a slower camera but still a very good performer. many users just keep them as backups and street shooting cameras.

They come up on Ebay sometimes at a reasonable price but the used prices on K10D's are very low (-$400) so consider one of those as well.

Duh I didn't notice that he said *ist and not *istD. But if I was going to recommend a film camera, get a PZ-1, PZ-1p, ZX-7 or MZ-5n. All better cameras IMO. here's a sweet package.

Pentax MZ-5n + ZX-7 QD Autofocus Camera Outfit MINT W@W - (eBay.ca item 220354236880 end time 15-Feb-09 14:00:00 EST)

Introduced in 2003, the *ist was the final 35mm film SLR Pentax produced.
They are not common. In USA used dealer KEH has one ~2-3 times per year.

Throw the MZ-6/ZX-L in Peter's bunch, and if you want to go cheaper the Z-20 is another good choice. The *ist had decent enough specifications but they're not that common, and the prices are usually higher than justified. I've also heard reports of some annoying AF lock problems on the *ist, possibly related to a wonky half-press on the shutter button?

I see you have an *ist so I guess you already know what you're getting into.

ZX-L is better b/c it works w/ older lenses.
i think *ist is smaller, has selectable focus points and has different exposure modes but has the cripple mount

Yes I know, it is a wonderful camera and more like a K10D or K20D. Perfect size with the battery pack...
The only annoying thing is : the screen is a little bit small for preview

Which model is the most close to a *ist ?

Thank you Rense, but those are digital cameras, not film cameras !

I have digital *ist and think, that the fault of all #ists is the "crippled" mount.
