Thanks for the new entries. I have updated the database. The database is attached to the first post in this thread.

I also updated the table with the production sequence:

Interesting: I always knew it was very special

Here are some pics if that's OK. I never thought of it, but that yellow round sticker has always been there. No idea what it means, if anything.

Thanks,
Ismael

Ismael,
Many years back the Japanese camera manufacturers organization had a quality assurance program. Products which conformed to their quality standard got an oval sticker with the word Passed. The quality stuff thus stood out from the many cheap products which Japan was known for back then.

K1000 question

Not to create confusion but...

It's been said that Pentax moved its K1000 (?) operations from

manufacture/assembly Japan
manufacture Japan/assembly Hong Kong
manufacture/assembly Hong Kong

Was it just the K1000? Because my K2 has all the telltale info of a first-run Japan/Japan K1000.

Asahi name above the Pentax name
AOCO logo above the Asahi name
"Asahi Opt. Co. Japan" on the upper right corner backside of the top plate
Serial number on the left side of the prism, front edge of the top plate
Serial begins with 787
All metal top and bottom plate
No surviving "Passed" sticker

Does anyone have a history of the K2 line?

Sorry to post in this thread, but my son wants a K1000 so researching led me here and then the serial no. database further led me to more closely examine my K2 and discover the similarities of the markings.

Thanks for any info!

The production span of the K2 was quite short and I don't know of any variations. I think they were all made in Japan.
