just picked one up

Having sold my original K1000 seven years ago to fund my first digital P&S (really should say POS lol), I've yearned to pick up another ever since. Thursday, I used the local Kijiji to acquire another one, complete with three Pentax lenses and a knock-off called Makinon. I'll have to grab some film now, and see if my trusty old skills come back to me, but it all ought to be fun. But anyways, I digress. For the database, here's what I know about this K1000...

Model: K1000
Color of faux leather: Black

Serial number: 6735595
Location of serial number: Bottom plate opposite the film release button

Asahi Optical logo on prism housing: Yes
Asahi name above Pentax name on prism housing: Yes
Asahi Opt. Co. engraved on back side of top cover: Yes

Manufactured/assembled in: doesn't really say
Location of manufacturing/assembling information: not seeing one

Year of original purchase (if you know): purchased by original owner on Sept. 9, 1981 (as per Pentax Canada Inc. purchaser's record)

This K1000 came with the 50mm F2 kit lens serial number 5188086
He added a 28mm F2.8 serial number 7855503
and a Takumar Bayonet 135mm F2.5 serial number 5592295

Hope this helps,

Rob

My "New" K1000 info

Picked mine up while listening to a Radio Tag Sale. Heard the caller mention "Pentax K1000", called him up and we made a deal. It's virtually pristine

Focusing screen: Split screen

Weight (without batteries and body cap): ~630 g / 22 oz (according to my kitchen scale)
Year of original purchase (if you know): Don't know, got it used in the mid-80s.

Skimming through the other posts, I noticed mine seems to be the only one with a split screen. Was this a relatively unusual option? I know I found it difficult to adjust to after my father's Spotmatic with the prism collar.

Notes: This camera is an indestructible brick. I purchased it new in 1989. The top and bottom plates are "pot metal." Both exhibit magnetic attraction, although the bottom exhibits much more than the top. The flash shoe brackets are made from the same material. Someone might conclude the top plate is plastic, but it's metal and responds to ambient temperature fluctuations.
