Mixed Plastic/Metal Top/Bottom plates?

Did Pentax produce K1000's with, say, a plastic top plate and a metal bottom plate?

I have one that I know has a metal bottom plate--I've removed it, and a magnet sticks to it. But the top plate shows no magnetic attraction. I know it might be aluminum or brass, but are there mixed models like that?

A hybrid K1000?

This is the first such "hybrid" in the database if the top is indeed plastic. What also makes it stand out is the absence of the Asahi logo on the front combined with the presence of the Asahi Opt. Co. engraving on the back side of the top plate.

Could it be a transition model we didn't know about until now? There is one camera more in the database (8402823) with no Asahi logo but with the Asahi Opt. Co. engraving on the back of the top plate. The user (ismaelg) in that case indicated the top to be metal.

The final run with plastic top and bottom does not have Asahi Opt. Co. engraved on the back of the top plate!

Interesting!!

Did you buy this one new? A plate could have been replaced some time along the way.

Interesting

Okay…I have here a K1000 SN 8472374 (which I already logged above). Bottom plate is metal (not ferrous, but it clinks metallically when hit). The top plate has no Asahi logo on the front, but does have the "Asahi Opt. Co." stamp on the back below the film advance lever.

I actually have one with no Asahi Opt. Co. engraving anywhere. Plastic K1000 I guess!

My "new" K1000, the one which actually made me look for age info

Model: K1000
Color of faux leather: Black

Serial number: 7567995
Location of serial number: Bottom plate stamped

Asahi Optical logo on prism housing: Yes
Asahi name above Pentax name on prism housing: Yes
Asahi Opt. Co. engraved on back side of top cover: Yes (NO Japan)
"Bump" on top plate near rewind crank: No

Top plate: Metal
Bottom plate: Metal
Battery cover: Threaded

Assembled in: Unknown
Location of manufacturing/assembling information: Unknown

Focusing screen: Microprism

Weight (without batteries and body cap) (if you know): Don't know
Year of original purchase (if you know): unknown (a friend bought at a yard sale long ago, and I'm buying it from him)

P.S.: doing my research these days I read somewhere (Wikipedia?) that the 50mm Pentax-A lens was introduced in 1983. This camera has the previous lens, the 50mm Pentax-M (as can be seen by the aperture ring below, lacking the A-position and little button after the 22). Assuming the lens on this camera is the original one that was sold with it (reasonable), then this camera should be from 1983 or earlier. That's the best guess I could arrive at so far for its age.
