Missing battery cover on ES II

Last week I got lucky and came across a Spotmatic SL and three takumars: SMC 28 3.5, Super Tak 55 2, and Super Tak 135 3.5. All the lenses in excellent condition (with caps and hoods too!). The SL needed new light seals but other than that it's working great. 60USD for all.

Also wanting a body with some automation and a meter, I ordered a ES II from Adorama. It arrived today but the battery housing cover is missing. I've written them to see if they've got the piece. If not, I requested to send the body back. Although, poking around the internet just now I can't find another ES II for sale. Does anyone know if the battery cover is the same as other Spotmatic models? If so, I'll look for a cheap junker and use it for parts.

Thanks

Anton

no. unfortunately for you. the ESII was the last of the spotmatics and the only with AE metering. it uses 4 batteries stored in a rectangular hatch on the underside of the mirror box next to the lens mount. other spotmatics use one battery with a (universal for spotmatics) round hatch located on the underside of the body next to the tripod mount. finding such a cover will be very difficult. if I were you I would either request one from Adorama (if they have one) did it mention the lack of a cover on the website? or send it back for a refund. again this cover will be very hard to find. I dont know if it will be expensive but hard to find for sure.

Thanks for the information. The body was marked 'E' and there was no mention of the missing cover. If they don't have it, I'll send it back and keep looking for another ES II.

Always ask or look very carefully at any auction listing an ESII. I would say that probably over half the ones I see up for auction are missing the battery covers.
