FYI, I was looking on eBay for a MZ-S and I was surprised find a few.

Pentax MZ-S 35mm Film Body Only with Grip - NR - eBay (item 130290105862 end time Mar-04-09 10:12:26 PST)

Currently at $117 (seller has good rating)

Pentax MZ-S 35mm SLR camera (exceptional quality) - eBay (item 200315060474 end time Mar-06-09 15:23:18 PST)

Currently at $350 (seller has good rating and just sold another MZ-S for $480 -
includes some extras, looks like a potentially great deal)

Pentax MZ-S Professional 35mm SLR with all accessories - eBay (item 280316967986 end time Mar-07-09 16:30:25 PST)

Currently at $789 (includes many extras but I am unsure about the lenses)

There a few others but these are the most notable ones.

At least the two first, seems like okay deals. I wonder how hard the grip is to get on its own ? (In case one buys body only)

KEH has the MZ-S for $499.00

grip is pretty difficult and expensive to find on its own. and it's definitely worth it.

I would bet money that the first lising is someone who bought that body and grip on SF Bay Craig's List, not his/her backup body. This exact setup was listed about a month ago for a good price...

according to the listing, it's his 2nd backup body. you're right the listing looks exactly the same.

Ummmmm, how much money?

That MZ-S on ebay was mine, and I bought it used several years ago as a backup to my other MZ-S that just happens to be sitting on my kitchen table at this very moment (right next to my ZX-L). The ZX-L will be up the next to go as I really do not need 3 35mm film cameras any longer.

Feel silly now?

Maybe

I listed a 55mm 645 lens and a Nikon 28mm f2.8 at the same time so I just got it all over with at once.

In addition, there is more protection with Ebay/Paypal, although on the other hand, it costs more.

MZ-S flaw

I don't have one and don't intend to buy one. To me the main flaw of the MZ-S is that it just can't work with my DA40 and my DA70. There is no control of aperture from the body. Both my MZ-7 and MZ-6 provide that.

On the other hand, if you stick to FA lenses, this is irrelevant.

how well does it work for you? would you use them wide open on a regular basis?

DA70 is excellent wide open. I've not yet used it with my MZ-6 but it worked nicely with both my (now defunct) MZ50s. I've had good results with the DA40 too, on both you just need to remove the original hoods.

On the other hand if you leave them on you get this interesting vignetting effect (photographer shot by his wife) :

I've used a DA 40 on my MZ-S, as well as on a Super Program. True you can't use Av and M modes, a major lack; but you can use Tv and P modes, and get a full range of aperturres. Works okay for me.
