Sorry to bug you about a subject that must have been asked over and over again however I searched the archives with no success...

I just purchased a ME Super for my daughter to use at intro to photography classes and I need to purchase batteries.

Are there any preferred brands (or ones for which to steer clear of) that you guys can recommend?

Many thanks in advance!
David

LR44 or SR44 for cameras designed to use either, is there any advantage to one or the other?
i read that LR44 alkaline has a gentle death which may mess up metering, but if maybe the camera is designed for it and can regulate voltage it's ok?

I use the LR44 for my ME super and I haven't had a problem with it at all. The metering does get funky near the end of the batteries life but it's fine when it's fresh. It lasts quite a while to.
The nice thing about the ME super is the 125x which all mechanical. One technique I've used when I don't have batteries is I meter with my k200d for 1/125 with same iso and find the proper aperture then switch the lens back onto the ME super and make the proper adjustment. It's good in pinch despite being a hassle.

Thanks all for your feedback. I will probably just head over to Radio Shack although I am wondering if you guys may have an opinion of the battery (Varta V76PX) and tool in the following auction:

Battery Kit - Pentax ME, ME Super, MG, MV, MX, M Series - eBay (item 280318231615 end time Mar-08-09 15:36:44 PDT)

Thanks again,
David

I just get a 3 pack of Energizer SR- batteries at Walgreens for like $7. Don't know what's in my ME-S but I have the SR-44's in the MX.

Don't matter - although I'd stay away from Kodak batteries.

Go for the Big 3 names, preferably: Energiser, Eveready, and Duracell. Those ones are easy enough to find, and the best ones, really.

Keep in mind that a set of fresh batteries in an ME Super would last at least six months, unless you're putting three rolls a day through it.

Varta is a good brand

There are a couple of battery specialists who sell via ebay (I can't recall the names, batterymd? or something) who also have web sites where the pricing is lower. I ordered a blotter of Spotmatic batteries very cheap & have been happy - the only new ones I've needed are when a new camera shows up at my doorstep wanting power.

Here is an online vendor I have used - almost any classic battery you could want.

Photo Battery

Right now the websstore seems to be down, but it might be my browser

That is a heck of a price, Chris! I just bought two of these same batteries at the local photo store for $4.95 each. Nevertheless, I am not going to run through batteries like you so I am happy. Also, picked up a roll of Ilford HP5 Plus 400 to check out the ME Super and then hand it to daughter #2 for her education.

Thanks all for the feedback!

You can use either LR44 (sudden death) or SR44 (nice long smoth death). You need 2 and the + sign is 'against the grain'
