Does anyone here use a Konica Minolta Dual Scan IV? I have found one locally for a decent price and I am considering it as a replacement for my V500 for 35mm film, but only if it will give me notably better image quality (especially sharpness and colour balance) than the Epson.

Many thanks for any comments

Where was this one shot? The fountain looks like the one they're installing in Berzcy Park, but the surrounding environment doesn't look at all like it.

Depends what you call a decent price, but I think you'll get far better image quality than your V500.

I went from a 4990 to a Canon FS4000 and was blown away by the difference.

I used to own a Scan Dual IV. Compared to my V500 and V750 sharpness wise... With slide film it was very much sharper than both Epson scanners. With true B&W film, it was still sharper than my V750 @3200dpi, but not a lot. With C41 film, I honestly think the V750 output better results...
I found with C41 film, the Scan Dual IV has issues with digital noise, even when multi-pass scanning is used.

As far as color balance...
IMO color balance is what you make it, but if you rely own auto scanning then it really comes down to the software you're using. The Konica Minolta software won't run on Windows 10 (I'm not sure which Mac OS it will run on, but I'm fairly certain it doesn't work with current Mac OS), so you're stuck with using Vuescan. As far as auto scanning goes, Vuescan is supposedly great.
One of the biggest reasons I decided to sell my Scan Dual was the software. Vuescan doesn't (IMO) give enough manual control, and has an overly complicated and confusing interface. If I could make the Scan Dual run on Epson Scan I would have kept it.

About the Minolta Software, you can use it on a Virtual Machine with Windows XP or you'll have to use either Silverfast or Vuescan.

Here's a picture of my Grandpa for his 90th birthday, another picture that survived my misfortune with the Kodak VR35 K80.

Agfa Vista Plus 200 scanned with my DiMage IV.

Great results! A lot better than I would have expected from that film.

Thanks, Colton! These are some of the best. Quite a few under exposed and either the grain or the scan (or both) are really rough. File sizes aren't very big, but I have a few I'll try to tweak in LR.

And teeing someone up for # 15,000.
