No, although a lot of people think they are...

They're basically decaying remnant lumps of dolerite, which is ingenious rock that forces itself into fissures between sedimentary layers about 1000-1500m below ground. Glacial action then carves away the sediment (mostly sandstone), leaving you with the peaks you can see here.

It's very common type of rock in Tasmania.
