I Am Still Trying To Figure Out How They Are Able To Land This Seaplane On The Deck!

Carefully, very, very carefully.

Well, obviously, you land the seaplane on the sea.

But I've also been wondering how they get it on and off the deck. A net? A hidden, collapsible crane?

Either that, or it's a very fast yacht.

I am thinking a crane also, generally referred to as a divot in maritime terms.

Google "Mirabella V"...the yacht is very well known and much larger than it appears in the photograph. At the time it was built, it was the largest sloop-rigged boat ever constructed (245' with 49' beam and overall height of 290').

Here is a photo of the float plane being retrieved...

I did a search of the name on the stern "M5 Ramsey" and it is the former "Mirabella V"

Re: the Mirabella V, well, I'm glad to know my guess about the divot was on target. Correct on the name change -- it was changed to M5 after it was sold to Rodney Lewis.

Geez, actually a 254 ft long sloop-rigged yacht! Wow. ("sloop rigging" basically uses a single mast, a mainsail rigged aft of the mast, tied to a boom, with a jib sail forward of the mast). Just to put things in perspective, I've been on a four-masted ship that was only a bit longer than this yacht. Here's a pic of the 4-master Rella Mae with a sloop in the foreground. The Rella Mae is a 282 ft long dinner cruiser that sailed in Honolulu Bay. Her masts reach 131 feet above the water. Compare that with the Mirabella V's single mast that reaches 290 feet into the air -- over twice as high. The following photo was taken in 1984, Canon FTb, Sigma 600mm f/8, Kodachrome 64.

So, this puts things in a bit of perspective. We have a typically sized sloop-rigged yacht (probably 30 to 40 feet in length) in the foreground, and a four-master in the background that is only about 50 feet longer than the Mirabella V, which is rigged the same as this sloop in the foreground.

A photo from our 2016 Alaska vacation

Denali, Alaska
This snapshot was taken at one of the Tour Bus stops. The vistas in Denali are so vast, a photograph really cannot capture the scene, just pieces of it.
I submitted this photo in this Month's PF Photo Contest - The Sky.

Camera: Pentax MZ-S
Lens: Pentax FA* 24mm
Film: Kodak Ektar 100

You should downsize your images to around 1500px wide before uploading.
