I lived in Plainville for 4 yrs and worked in downtown Hartford and never heard of that church. Darn it. I'll have to check it out this August when I am back in town for a wedding.

Very nice Kevin. I was looking at the church photos without looking at your avitar box and location and realized I was just at that church a week or so ago. Nice to see some local photos.

@Valder and Rover - Glad you enjoyed the photos and a "taste o' home". That's sortof the thing about Hartford - there are some real hidden gems right under your nose. Mark Twain felt it was one of the most beautiful cities in the world during the time he lived here.

Best to you both,
Kevin

@Swift1, again, you make that fuji 200 look good.

@goddo31(Jason), congrats on the scanner. You're making me start thinking about putting a V700 on my shopping list.

Thanks Kevin. It's a good unit, and with some fiddling I have got some good results quite easily. However I'd say it might not be the best option for scanning 35mm film only (ie. no interest in doing other formats etc).
And for some reason I seem to be getting much better results with B&W than colour, so far

BTW, I really like your church shots with the M28 f/3.5. You have shown how sharp the lens can be, in a way that I have not succeeded on film yet.

A stunning photo - well done.
Thanks Matt. With the original scan (done by a lab), I barely even glanced at that photo. It seemed to really come alive with a more detailed scanning job.

Yes, this was taken just this last weekend (June 5). A cool Spring coupled with generous late season snow makes for very snowy mountains even in "Summer". And, yes, they are still skiing on that snow. Look closely and you can see the straight lines of the Magic Mile and Palmer chairlifts. Those lifts will remain in operation until the end of September when they shut down for a month or so for yearly maintenance.

I like your work Jimfear, these are two nice shots
I have been busy too, dropped off 10 rolls for development yesterday. So I will have near on 300 shots to scan! Might have jumped in the deep end all by myself!

Jason, meant to respond to this yesterday. (Nice shot of the Hercules, BTW). As I'm currently only shooting 35mm, maybe the V700 doesn't make sense. Did you come across a better solution for 35mm (and here's the catch) in the same price range? I know the Nikons are out there, but I just don't want to sink that kind of money into a scanner .

Best,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
I couldn't afford to sink the cash required for a Nikon unit either, although I'm sure they are awesome scanners. Out here the v700 is very expensive on it's own, but I eventually decided to make the compromise in the hope of not needing to buy another scanner later (ie. for a larger format etc). Two scanners are more expensive than one. I also liked the potential to scan high quality reflective stuff, because at some stage I would like to do so on some old family photos.

There was another (dedicated 35mm) option I was looking at; if you are interested I suggest having a look for the thread I started in this film slr section entitled "film scanner suggestions and examples". Additionally I'll try and send you a PM with some further details. There's also a great thread in the PP/darkroom section started by Stevebrot with some good comparison images. If you can't find it I'll try and link you later. Anyway I'm quite happy with the v700 so far.

Here's a film shot to bring things slightly back on topic. Unfortunately I don't have any more v700 examples online at this stage, so this was done by the lab:
