A 24-50, Ricoh XR1s, Kodachrome 200. According to my field notes it was -34C. Frost conditions were unusually bad. I could barely see through the viewfinder, so I preset focus at 10 feet, aperture f/11 and went for it...
Wow John! I know the XR-1s is a tough camera, but I did not know it was that tough. -34C is cold enough to thicken even the lightest lubricants and kill the stoutest batteries. I am not sure that my similarly spec'd KX would operate under those conditions.

The XR-1s was my main cold weather body for about 20 years. The key factor was the Copal Square shutter, which was absolutely reliable. I discovered the Copal Square in 1973 in my first SLR, an Argus/Cosina STL1000. That was followed by a Vivitar 450 SLD, then the Ricoh.

I shot quite a bit at temperatures below -40 when I lived in the Yukon. -45 was usually my limit, as it got just plain unpleasant and hazardous below that. My absolute record was -52C.

Below -40 many lenses tended to have the focus ring freeze up very quickly, so I'd pre-focus before going outside. On the -52 shoot I was after ptarmigan, so I set my el cheapo 400 at minimum focusing distance and just walked up to the birds. They were all fluffed up and didn't want to move.

I busted my K20D in July. Back to mostly film until the K-5 comes out. Here is one taken with the old Rolleiflex Model D on Ektar 100. Such a superb film that can do both subtle pastels as well as blow-the-doors-off boldness. Taken July 25, 2010.

Indeed it was. Rolleiflex Model D, Tri-X Pan. 320ISO, Aug 14, 2010. Time for a fuzzy kitty shot.

I bought me a new G4050 HP scanner and trying out some things. So far I like it. I am using the software it came with instead of the view scan I had been using.
Aside from cropping, they are what they are.

Smorgasbord of dudes
I am not really fond of the picture, but like the color

A little to the left

I can't resist a good bench shot

And another gritty shot

Still another.

I know technically most of these are not any good, but that is what I like about them.

Spotmatic SP II, S-M-C Tak 35mm F3.5, Fuji Superia-Xtra 400. I wish I had lower speed film loaded, but I am pretty happy with the results!! Kemp Auto Museum had a small Ferrari show today, free admission, and I had some shots left on the roll, so I decided to see what I could do

Also a Lambo on the grounds..

And a Maserati

You can see me and the Spottie just above the tire on this one

Missed the focus, but I like the capture.

Crooked ball rack

Typical ELA kids

I shot while walking across the street...Man this one could have been good, but to slow a shutter caused all sorts of problems here.

Flying rats.

A bunch of dudes....

Again, while technically not good, it is what I like about them.

Back to school now, and the university library got a Nikon Coolscan 5000ED for me to play with! No more Epson 4990 flatbeds

So, here are some favorites from the summer so far (I've scanned half my negatives so far and I've 5 rolls of kodachrome coming back from Dwayne's, too).

Hey guys. I've been very busy this summer but now I finally have time to do some shooting again. (And go over all the great shots I missed in this thread. ).

Ricoh 500G rangefinder. Rollei Retro 400s in AM74

Rolleicord Vb, Fuji Neopan 400 in Rodinal 1:100

The Dutch text on the wall reads: "kids play here".

I love this shot too. The steam in the air and the nice colors make me keep coming back to look at the photo.
