Scrolling through and that image pulled me back immediately for a much closer look. Nice job.
Agreed!

+1 on the Camaro, now we have to guess the year! I'll go with 1970?

Almost feel like a lurker here as I've been shooting mostly digital. I've only managed to shoot four rolls of film thus far in 2012. I mentioned long ago and in a galaxy far, far away that I had landed a sweetheart deal on an MX that came with a ton of add-ons (filters, flash, flash bracket, winder, a couple of lenses, etc) but that unfortunately the manual film advance was on the fritz. The road to hell is paved with my good intentions of sending it to Eric for some TLC and as of this posting, that camera has yet to make the trip.

I already have most of the Pentax 35mm bodies I'm interested in shooting (with the exception of the LX and the MZ-S) so I've been avoiding CraigsList like the plague. I had some time on my hands last week and thought I'd take a look, just to see what was out there, and I stumbled across an MX for the princely sum of $50.00. A nondescript Vivitar 35-70mm zoom was attached to it and the body didn't seem to look too bad, so I thought "What the hell..." and replied to the ad.

Slapped an M50 f1.7 on it and started a test roll of Ultramax 400 through it Monday and finished off the roll this morning. All shots are from Elizabeth Park, known for its rose gardens. Roses are pretty well played out, but there are some other gardens still in fine fettle.

Pentax MX, M50 f1.7, Kodak Ultramax400

There's an interesting glitch in upper left hand corner of this image and in some of the subsequent shots that I'm attributing to a UV filter mounted on the M50. I'm guessing it's light bouncing between the filter and the front element of the lens. If anybody has any thoughts on other causes, I'd be grateful for your input

Best to all,
Kevin

I had two more I wanted to share...

Last year's October blizzard was not kind to some of the older trees in the park. One came crashing down on this electrical panel that clearly hasn't been repaired.

Last is the shot I posted over in "Introduce your film camera..." (shot with my K5). Just want to share the chocolatey MX goodness with as many film shooters as possible :-)

Haven't yet come close to forming an opinion on the MX yet. I enjoyed shooting the test roll, but I'm going to have to spend a little more time with it before I have a sense of how it sizes up against my other Pentax bodies. (I know I've wanted one for a long time due to its vaunted reputation as a workhorse and as the "poor man's LX". This copy seems to be in pretty good shape, as is my other one, excepting the condition of its film advance). It's my understanding that a lot of MXs were ridden hard and put away wet by their pro and semi-pro owners and that it's difficult to find one not in need of serious work. I'm counting my blessings and looking forward to running some better film through this copy.

Best,
Kevin
