Montparnasse cemetery

I spent an afternoon in Montparnasse cemetery in Paris. I took quite a few photographs! For these I was using my MX with Fuji 200 print film and one of M20/4, K30/2.8, K50/1.2 or M100/2.8. Mostly I was using the last of those.

Nice set.
The M 100/2.8 is really a superb lens. I wish I could still use mine properly
Here's a photo of my wife, shot wide open with the M 100/2.8 mounted on my ME, on Provia 100F.
Photo was taken in March 2012.

Thanks Colton. I'm fond of the 100/2.8 too but I don't use it as much as I should. With the K135/2.5 and the M85/2 I'm a bit spoilt for choice around about that focal length!

Cheers, Kris.

Simple bokeh study:

Now, a question for you film experts: I shot a certain amount of roll of Kodak Ultramax (better, it's Gold Colour 400, even the negative is called GC400!) and I noticed that the colours are way off, of instance with my Zenit 19 and its Helios 44m-4 everything looks blue, even the Thames:

While with another camera, another lens and another film (Nikon FM, Nikkor 50mm 1.4 AI converted, and Portra 400) I get these results:

Is that a problem of incorrect exposure, different lenses or bad film vs. good film?

I spent an hour or so in a cemetery when I was in Paris two years ago, it was an experience. Some very outlandish tombstones and everything laid out in streets.

I ended up spending the entire afternoon as I was in Paris on a Monday and virtually everything else was shut! I loved it though, and would happily go back.

Those are very nice!

Yashica Electro 35 GSN, Yashinon 45mm 1.7, Hema 200 Iso color film.
I prefer the shots from the GSN to the ones from the GX, may be sample variation but I have shot with two GX's recently and the lens did not really impress me...

Really?
The first shot from your previous set (GX) is superb and IMHO, the best of the last 5 you've posted. I'd think the lens played a big part, though if both lenses were to take that same photo...

Thanks, it's not a bad lens by any means but I guess I have been spoiled a bit lately because since I'm comparing it with the other lenses I used lately: the Schneider Xenon on the Retina IIa, The Ultron on the Voigtlander Vitessa, and the 45mm 1.4 on the Lynx 14E. But the GSN lens also does look better to me than the GX one. It's a tad sharper I think but mostly I like the tonality of the GSN better and the lens has some pop for me which the GX one doesn't

Pentax FA77 f/1.8 Limited @f/4

I have been having fun with Rollei Crossbird 200 - the film is a bit too fast for the kind of lenses I use, but unlike most cross processed films I have used it seems to have better control of contrast.

Sigma 180mm f/3.5 APO EX Macro @ f/3.5

Sigma 180mm f/3.5 @ f/5.6

this is what you get when you cross-process Kodak E100VS:

Just a funny note :
In France, to be a lawyer you have to pass a special exam. At the end, there is always a picture taken with all the graduated candidates.
My dad celebrates the 40th anniversary of that day today. The print of that day hasn't change despite the time.

Do todays pictures will last that long ?
Who said film is obsolete due to digital ?

Traditional silver-based B&W prints last a long time (many, many decades) if made with archival processing. Traditional dye-based color prints fade fairly quickly. Current ink-jet prints are claimed to have longevity rivaling silver-based prints.
