Going through negatives from the late seventies, I came across this shot which had not seemed worth printing on a 5x7. However, looking at it on the computer screen, it came to life as the details became more obvious. Taken at Crescent Beach B.C.

Nice panorama and layers, structured and busy to calmer and diffuse--and it just works. Great textures. That Ektar has great color, too.

Kodak Ektar 100, Olympus XA rangefinder

Want to talk about latitude? Kodak Portra 400 shot at 800 on my Olympus XA and f/4 or f/5.6 putting the shutter speed at the maximum of 500. I had left my camera set for the wedding I was at the night before. "Correct" exposure given that aperture and film speed and the fact it was bright sunlight is probably 1/5000ish. I'm surprised anything came out at all!

nice atmospheric shots - I like the out-of-focus and little bit cinematic style - it is like watching a movie frame that is in the middle of panning or focusing . cool

Sunny 16 would have speed //400 and f16, so you were only three or four stops out at the most assuming a bright summer day.

Recently, I've been reduplicating many of my slides with a new dupe rig, which, at the center, lies my new NEX 7 -- the reason for the reduplication. Using this NEX, with its 24.3mp sensor, I'm able to scan slides at the same resolution as a Nikon Coolscan (4000ppi). Following are a few of my rescans. I may have posted some of these images before (don't recalll).

There is at least a portion of the beach at Ventura, CA, that is rocky -- full of smoothed over rocks like these:

Misty Mountains -- the coastal range of Central California:

California Highway 178, leading to the Kern River Canyon:

The lighthouse at Palos Verdes, California:

A tall four-master and a sailboat in Honolulu Harbor, Hawaii:

A fire-eater at a Luau in Waikiki. This is a rather small crop from a 35mm slide. Original size on the slide is probably 4mm x 6mm. Good thing I was shooting Kodachrome 64 because there was still decent detail with even such a small crop. In fact, I think the softness of the image actually gives it a certain look that I like.

Four stops overexposed on my K-30 would have given me a bright screen, not an almost usable image (it's hard to focus when the light turns green!).

It is quite fun using the panoramic 35mm film back
I also just ordered a Horizon 202. Hopefully it works well and I'll be posting some photos from it soon.
