Testing out my new to me Spotmatic SP. All is Fuji Superia 800, first is a Focal 35mm f2.8mm, the rest are from a pair of m42 400mm Vivitar's I picked up at the same time, handheld.
Great photos of the dog.
It looks like your Spotmatic has a shutter issue

The darkness on the left half of the image on the second two images? I think it's the lens. It's a Vivitar 400mm f5.6 m42 but the mount is a little loose that even caused vignetting on the corners of a few images.

Unless you're seeing something else?

I kinda don't think a lens issue would present itself like that.
That looks like shutter capping to me.
Here's a photo that I shot with an old Pentax SV that had a shutter issue.

There is a potential "weakness" in the linkage between speed and aperture rings if they are very roughly handled, resulting in aperture blades being torn off their pivots.
My Lynx 1000 suffers from that problem. There are two (I think) rods that run from the aperture ring back to the iris mechanism. These may tear out from or deform their points of attachment resulting in a jammed ring. Forcing it tears everything all to pieces. The fix involves a full tear-down of the lens/shutter assembly. I was going to send mine off to Mark Hama, but he is getting on in years and I am not sure if he would/could fix it.

I like the framing. Wow 20mm? My widest is a K24mm.

I've been jonesing for a ~20 since forever, but they're rare, slow and expensive, and I wonder how much I'd actually use one.

When I'm armed with an ultra-wide, I go looking for excuses to use it, so mine gets used quite a bit. I don't have a 20mm, though. I have two 17mm's and I haven't decided yet which I'll keep. One's a Tokina made Vivitar and the other's a Tamron. They sell for the same as or a little bit less than a Pentax 20/4 M.

Love my M20/4 - probably one of my favourite lenses on film.

Not a great shot, but a recent one:

I got the A20/2.8 a couple months ago and it's a real gem. Pretty fast for a 20mm as well.

I also have the K18/3.5 and the K20/4. All are great street lenses for those shots in tight places.

Not yet. $200 for the repairs is a bit too extreme for my budget at this time.
