I shot these with my Spotmatic 2, 35mm super tak and some 99 cents film. The odd thing is that I was sure it had Ilford XP-2 in it.

An old rock church that is really pretty rare in my neck of the woods.

there's a 4490 Epson scan of Provia, a bit expired, and a Dwayne's scan of 400H. I recall perhaps the Provia was with the 150 and the 400H with the 75... I do recall backing up further with the Provia (?) which may mean I changed lenses.

I suppose I ought to have done this scientifically, on a tripod with the same everything, not to mention the same scanner. But life's too short.

Oh, in case there's any confusion #1 is 400H and #2 is Provia

I hope you don't mind, but I noticed the 400H picture had the wrong color balance. It was probably caused by incorrect removal of the orange mask. I quickly did a levels and curve adjustment in Photoshop and am posting your image again to show the difference. Negatives are not the easiest thing to scan, but this shows that the color is there, it just needed a little TLC.

Thanks - over on mflenses someone removed the magenta cast from the Provia... Last night as I was playing with the images, trying to see how close I could get them to each other, I did manage to reduce the green slime on the 400H but found Provia's magenta harder to remove. Even at the end of the day, the two films have their own personalities.

Fittingly mehanikaloptikal posted some high ISO pictures above, nice ones also. I just finished a high ISO experiment I had been thinking about for a while.

Shooting Tri-x at 6400 and stand developing it in Rodinal. I was really surprised by the results! I was expecting grain the size of a smaller house and no grey scale at all.

Tri-x @6400 for 2 hours in Rodinal
KX with K50/1.2 @ about f/2.8

oh, yeah. Rodinal can be surprising thing, especially with stand development, something I started not long ago also.

Yup, no doubt about that! I find that color balance is by far the hardest part of scanning. Good color profiles make it much much easier though, but then presenting them on the web throws another wrench in the machine since many browsers, including chrome, don't support color profiles. That and srgb doesn't even come close to displaying everything on film, slides in particular.

I LOVE Astia! I've often heard it referred to as "dull", but that has not been my experience at all. It's got good dynamic range and the colors are always accurate and saturated. Maybe not the equal of velvia for golden hour landscapes, but it's a great all around film. Thanks for sharing!
