Thank you. I am having a hard time shooting with such a long lens. I find it quite a challenge, but fun.

I've been watching this thread for a while and the pictures you guys are putting up are fantastic! Really inspiring and daunting at the same time! I'm very much still pottering about with film but here are two shots from test rolls in two of my recently acquired cameras. I let the cameras do what they wanted as I was wanting to see if they were working properly, some came out ok, others didn't..........

Pentax ME Super, M 1:2 50mm, Cheap Fuji C200

Pentax Program A, A Zoom SMC 1:4 35-75 mm, Fuji C200

I am sending 6 rolls of assorted films from several cameras off today for processing, expensive business but I do like the feel of film and having something "real" in my hands!

Jools, are you happy with the V500? I'm looking to buy one soon. I'd love a V700 or a Coolscan V but I just can't afford it.

I still intend to wet print my best shots but using a scanner to preview my film will better than making a contact print of my film like I do now. There will also be times when I want to publish a shot online (in this thread for example).
Vendee, I've had it for only about 5 days. And the early results are quite positive. I'm still getting to know the machine/software but I am pleased so far.
I too, would have wanted a V700 or better but couldn't afford it. I'd been using an HP film scanner from circa 2001, so the V500 seems to work at light speed to me.

The scanner works better than expected with 35mm film even though I had read some reports that were not too favorable with scanning this film format. But my scans of 35mm BW and color film ( some rolls from this year but the rest from as far back as 15 years) have produced good results for me. Much older color film have kinks I have to work with but I believe its more a factor of the film age and lack of care, than the V500.
Using 120, the scanner is simply fun. Everything has scanned properly.
The only downside, I see is that the film holders are not the best (something also mentioned by many reviewers) and I may invest in non-glare glass as an aid but that's for later.

I purchased the scanner mostly for 120 use but my results with 35mm has been a great bonus. Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it so far.
Hope this helps out.

... this was in April of '08, I'd just scored the Auto Takumar 55/1.8 at the camera show, and drove over to the Meadowlands to try it out with the SP1000. There was this strange storm cloud, really dark and low, but it was all threat and no action at least where I stood. Fuji 400 film, probably the drug store variety.

Vendee,

To add to Jools' comments...

My wife bought a V500 Photo scanner as a Christmas gift for me, and it is excellent! I find it easy to use, fast (by comparison to the old Polaroid SprintScan 35mm film scanner I used since the 1990s), and the quality seems high to me. The only trick I have found is that with some negatives, the default automatic exposure adjustment was a little too extreme, so I went into the settings and set it to a less extreme amount, and sometimes I turn it off to manually adjust the curves. As was mentioned earlier about the V700, the film really needs to be flat, and usually with emulsion facing down for best results.

It's nice to be able to scan medium-format negatives also.

Here is a 35mm example taken with a K1000, Pentax-M 50mm f2.0, Kodak Tri-X @ ISO400 in D76 1:1, scanned at 2400 dpi to a .tif file, resize/sharpen for web posting.

a few street shots. I find it very hard to do street shooting with such a long lens. Very challenging. I am used to being in peoples faces, not across the street.

That is an interesting comment. The types of photos you get with the long lens is different as well. It is almost as if the interaction with the subject is important for the picture.
