Great shot, that's one a keeper. I too would like to know which film he used.

Over the last few weeks I've been scanning a bunch of old negatives from 2000-2006 that I shot using my first real camera, a Minolta Maxxum HTsi (Dynax 505si). I sold the camera in 2008 after getting my K10D and since then have gotten way into shooting film and have owned nearly 30 different cameras in the last 3 years. At the time I had no real reference for whether the HTsi was any good and so, out of sheer curiosity, I got on ebay and found a nice XTsi (same as HTsi but metal lens mount, pano, and eye start AF) for $20 shipped. I also found a Maxxum AF 35-80mm II for $3.81+$6.30 shipping which I am still waiting for. In the meantime, the camera showed up yesterday so I puts some batteries in it, mounted a Maxxum AF 70-210 II zoom that a neighbor gave me last year, and loaded a roll of Fujicolor 200 and went out and shot it.
I'm happy to say the camera worked great (with the 70-210 it seems to want to overexpose) and overall, it is a nice well featured little camera. Compared to my Pentax MZ-L (similar era and specs) though, the Minolta feels cheaper (has plastic tripod threads) in general, which is a little funny since the MZ/ZX are often nocked for cheap build. Overall though, I liked it, will be interested to see how it handles with the AF 35-80.

Here are a few from the roll.

Colton, nice results, and a good idea to recreate a formative set up. In my case I'd have to find a good Olympus Pen FT... which is a more expensive proposition, and I'm afraid my eyes aren't up to the small vf... not to mention, I shudder at how long it would take for 72 frames...

Has anyone else recreated their youthful 'real' camera set ups?

The Ricoh FF8WR is a wide angle (28mm) camera in the FF series... with a nice Panorama switch on the top deck. So I figure, I'll take a panorama-panorama, and stitch two frames together.

...
Coincidentally, I just won an auction for the same setup that got me started in 1977. I hadn't really planned to look for it, I just happened upon it while try to satisfy Pentax LBA/CBA.

The setup is a Canon AT-1 with a 50mm lens and auto winder. (Why Canon? It was the only brand in the PX at the time.) I don't recall the exact 50 I had back then, but the "new" one is a 1.8. I haven't decide if I'll actually use the AT-1 or not - I wanted it mostly as a nostalgic/collector item. I'm hooked on my Pentax gear now, but if the Canon is up to the task, I may put a roll or two through it.

Sort of.

In Summer of 1970, I ordered a chrome Ricoh Singlex TLS with 50/1.7 from Bass Camera in Chicago. When the camera was delivered, I was surprised to find a black body (!?) and a Rexatar 50/1.7 rather than the expected Rikenon. There was a note from Bass explaining that they sent the black body knowing that I would want it and would I please remit an additional $25. I figured I would not argue the lens issue and paying additional shipping charges and simply keep the camera as it was. It served me well until about 1984 when I lent it to my brother who hocked it to make living expenses.

About ten years ago I was in a nostalgic mood and found the set-up I had originally ordered offered on eBay. I bid $25 and won a mint condition chrome Singlex with Auto-Rikenon 50/1.7, case, original box, and manuals. It still works great despite over 40 years with no service outside of seals and the Rikenon is one of my favorite fast-50s.

...oh...and another one...how could I have forgotten!

My first "real" camera was a Yashica Lynx 1000 that I bought in summer of 1969. I only had it for about 9 months before it was stolen. I really liked the camera and a couple of years ago set out to find something similar. Long story short, I ended up with a Lynx 1000 with case and box and three Lynx 5000 (only one working). The 1000 currently has jammed aperture blades and needs to be sent off to Mark Hama for repairs, but the 5000 still works...sort of...no functioning meter.

The unfortunate thing is that shortly after I got my Lynxes, I got on my FSU rangefinder kick. The FED, Zorki, and Kiev are (all three) so much more entertaining, that I have to admit that the Lynxes get very little attention anymore.

Thanks Jussi.
I have been curious about the Pen FT but the bodies alone go for a pretty penny these days, not to mention the lenses. I hear you on the 72 frames, it takes me forever sometimes to get through a 36 roll and I generally like 24 rolls.
Fortunately for me, my little trip down memory lane only set me back about a weeks worth of Lattes

BTW, I like your panorama panorama

Excuse please this digital 'film' shot - just got delivery of 20x Fuji Pro 160S rolls... the packaging reminds me of ants for some reason. Taken with the Macro Tak 50/4.

So we have two Canons, a Ricoh and a Yashica, and a Pen as first 'real' cameras... anyone else? (My first full frame 35mm is an OM2s, my first autofocus a Pentax)
