I like the composition of these shots but I really don't like Ektar very much. I've only run one roll of 35mm through a camera and wasn't impressed. The grain is very fine but the colours and contrast are nasty.

I think that depends greatly on the quality of the developing and the scanning. I get the impression it is rather fussy. Ektar + the lab I use gives great results IMHO and it is just about the only 35mm colour film I use now. Have a look at my flickr photostream for examples of what I mean.

I do have a hard time remembering what picture was taken with what lens, since there's no EXIF, but I can surely tell you that the first one was with my Helios 44M, hard not to recognize with that swirly bokeh.

Jonathan Mac- Portra 400 shot with either the M 35 F2 or M 50 1.4. I just started shooting film this summer While on my vacation last week I tried some Portra 400, Portra 160, Ektar 100, Fuji 400H, 400 Tri-X and some 100 Acros. I might try to post some examples of what I got with what film. Still super confused on what I like and what does what in what in certain lighting situations.

I aggre, I used to hate ektar. My local lab scanned it with the Fuji Frontier SP2500. I now have the same scanner at home and now I like it because I scan it differently.

Nice medium format shots. Are you sure the second one is Ektar? It looks exactly the same as the 400H.

I aggre, I used to hate ektar. My local lab scanned it with the Fuji Frontier SP2500. I now have the same scanner at home and now I like it because I scan it differently.

I agree that a lot depends on the scanning. My V500 just arrived so I'll be able to scan my own soon and play with the colours to my heart's content. But that probably means that I'll spend hours trying to get it just how I want it and never quite manage to do it....

What he said...except that I shoot about as much Ferrania as Ektar...at least until the Ferrania runs out! Exposure with Ektar is important too. Box speed or +1/3 stop maximum. Avoid both over and under exposure.

Lomography Color Negative 100 is made in Italy, as far as I know there's only one film manufacturer there, so maybe the lomography colour negative films are the same as ferrania? Worth a try. I've tried the ISO 100 and I like the look, I plan to get some in 120 to try in the 645.

Hey, I must really be getting into this film thing if i can correctly identify a film like that! Having said that, you managed to get a quite similar look from the Ektar, though there is a slight hint of colour cast that isn't there in the Fuji shots, as I would expect from Ektar.
