Context : last week end, in Paris, France, there was the world championship of climbing.
During this comp's there is 3 kind of category : lead, boulder and speed.
main goal of lead is to reach the top of a climbing route (left wall, hidden from the public). it require lots of stamina, strenght, skills, and of course will. route was around 15m height, and 20m developped (real lenght of the route : take in account inclination of the wall - around 35 degree this year !)
To compare to running, this would be a kind of 400m or 800m.
boulder (two "blocks" on the middle) focus on the hardest climbing move possible. require lots of strenght, calm, and recovery skills between each attempt. Main goal is to start from bottom and "starts holds" and reach the top without falling between. 4min to do the boulder. As many tries as you want during this time. Keep in mind that the final score is done by the combination of 4 boulder, so the less try you do to succes, the "fresher" you'll be for the next !
And speed (right wall) ... well, it's not climbing for me !
back to the pictures :
The place before the beginning of the event.
Pentax SuperA + FA-J 18-35 @18mm @f4 + Superia 200 @100. during the event, it was fully crowded, some even sat up during the show !
here is a set of women boulder final.
Pentax SuperA + vivitar S1 (ver1) 70-200/3.5 @135mm f3.5 + Kodak portra 160 @1250. lots of staff and press for the event.
All following shots done with
Pentax SuperA + Vivitar S1 (ver1) 70-210/3.5 (mostly at 200mm f3.5) + Kodak portra 160 @ 1250. 4minutes to do the boulder (from bottom to top without falling between). A quick look before a first try, to confirm the method (beta) to succed. Climber : Kim Jain, from South Korea A first try of the boulder by Anna Stöhr, Austria. 2nd boulder. From time to time, the "creators" of the boulder like to put some spectaculary movements : here, climbers had to jump on a very very small hold they can't see when they jump ! Super tricky move' - but the crowd loved it ! many tries .... ... some better than other ... ... some succeded ... ... where many failed.
Hope you liked it !
btw : i would have killed, just to get a 300mm /f4 during this day !
Smell LBA for the next big comps
And i was truely impressed by the Portra 160. it just rock whatever the exposure setting you do. Color are super vibrant (far more than superia 200 for example), even pushed 3 stops it has almost no grain. sad my lab don't push more than 3 stops
