I have had similar effects, and suspect an underexposure that has been compensated for in the scan. There are threads on composition if you use the search feature in the technique section. It takes time to train yourself to have an 'eye' for what the picture will look like. For example, be aware of the background, as in real life, we mentally ignore it. On a photo it competes with your subject. There is a 'rule of thirds' you may wish to look into, but like many rules, it is a guide not an absolute.
The picture of the dog seems to have a reflection on it. Be aware of the sun causing flare on the lens. You know how sometimes when you want to see through a window you need to cup your hand to cut the reflections - it's that effect on the lens.
Your K1000 is capable of taking award winning pictures, it is just a matter practise.
Good points. Also, sharpening applied in some scanning software makes grain worse. In a shadow shot like the one with the butterfly, it is sometimes better to apply sharpening only to the butterfly if software permits.

The last one complements the vines.... Two nice shots Colton. I really like the colors on the water bottles.

Cross-posted from the MF thread... - this last roll of 120 was shot almost entirely through windows and doors at my house as I was laid up with a broken ankle...!

Here's a shot from the test roll I ran through the Spotmatic F that was recently given to me.
This is sort of a self portrait of me in my powerchair which I'm using quite a lot nowadays.

Spotmatic F, SMC Takumar 55/1.8, Fujicolor 200

Cool shot. Fuji Superia 400 really looks great in 120
Sorry to hear about your ankle though

As usual, more wonderful shots posted here. Colton, I wish I could experience just a small portion of your sucess.

I finally had some rolls developed, but I was mostly disappointed. I used an entire 36-frame roll on the bird feeder - the KX with a cheap 2x TC behind the M200/4 and mounted on a tripod. Every shot turned out soft. Here's an example - at f8 I believe (Kodak Gold 100):

These next two were captured with the same lens (no TC) on the K2 and the same film.

Based on the feeder experience, I think I'll start shopping for a quality 400mm so I can eliminate that TC.

cheers,
Fred

I don't have much experience shooting with a wide-angle lens, but I've had this Sigma 24mm with a Minolta mount for a while. I had it on an X570, but the camera broke. I recently got an XD11 and I ran a test roll of old Kodak Gold 400 of unknown origin (several years expired). I like the camera so far, and I think I can get some good results with this lens using some better film. Here's what I got from a walk around downtown.

And as always, great photos everyone. It's always an inspiration and a pleasure to browse this thread.

Next roll with the Kiev-4, this time with cheap supermarket film (probably rebranded fujicolor 200). Time was something around 1/25 or longer. Note to myself: need steadier hand.

Picture links to gallery.

Fun with the Pentax Espio shooting Fuji Superia 400. Actually this camera is not really fun, as there is not much to do when shooting. The price was right, $0.00.
