Yeah, I kind of jumped right in with both feet into film. My whole darkroom cost only $200.00. People are practically GIVING everything away. I bought a Leitz Focomat 1 35mm elarger for $10.00. My 4x5 enlarger is an Omega D5 XL with Chromega timer/power supply and has a color head as well as a diffuser head and came with a 26" x 26" vacuum hold down table, only cost me $90.00! Then the various small things like safe light, tanks, trays, tongs, etc cost another $100.00.
Craingslist is incredible for finding darkroom stuff on the cheap. Those enlargers alone cost thousands just a few years ago.
As for storage, I am working out of my shop's bathroom right now. I have everything set up on a small 2' x 4' table. You could have something as simple as a small cart with all your darkroom stuff on it and wheel it into a bathroom when you want to print. It really doesn't take up that much space. And it is FUN!
I can't afford a high dollar inkjet printer, so most of my images are sent away to be printed somewhere else. The prints I sell I never even see, they just go straight to the customer. With film, I finally have a way to make my own prints, I handle everything from first exposing the film, to the final print. It is a very rewarding experience.
I can't wait to learn more about the darkroom, and build up the skills needed to make good prints.
