Do you remember the f-stop when you photographed this image? The jar is very sharp. Little lights show it wasn't f1.8 but the bokeh on the right side is still very-very smooth.

Three images look very nice.
Thanks man - I love RVP100 - my favorite (I'm in the minority) is actually 100F. A whole stop comes in handy for certain.
I don't recall the Fstop exactly but it as well above 1.8 - I think Ive another shot from this angle at f/2 but this isn't it. This is probably around f4, as high as 5.6 I can't recall but I stopped down significantly. I'll post up the f/2 version.

This one looks like it has been taken by a Leica catalogue or the late 60s/early 70s.

These are more prosaic shots taken with my "new" Super A during a visit to Oxford.

A 50mm f1.4 bokeh:

Some architecture:

I used Portra 160...the A50/1.4 is crappily made but from an optical point of view is a stellar performer, better than the M50/1.4, I wonder if they have just changed coating, the bokeh looks very different from any Pentax f1.4 I owned.

Yup.

Review up...still I feel it will never be my favourite Pentax body.

Good Vancouver pictures. Got me poking though my Kodachromes and found these two, both candidates for Minimalist or pattern threads.

Both taken with the Yashica Lynx 5000.

Good stuff! Hey Phil, why the heck do they call it "False Creek" - I've always wondered... It in no way resembles a "creek", false or no.

Thank you for your reply and another image, chickentender! You showed a good example when stopping down improves a whole impression of an image. Even at moderate f-stops 31 Lim makes a very smooth background. Today many like to shoot almost always wide open.

I want also to say that your scanning looks like flawless. I have already known that Epson V500/V750 scanners are good for larger formats but it seems that they gain plenty of detail even from 35mm film (I opened your first image on flickr). As for me, I come across constant problems when my images are scanned even in rather good minilabs.

Thanks!

The body of water you enter traveling east from Burrard Inlet looked like a river/creek to the original settlers, but then abruptly ended as mud flats past Main Street. Hence it a "False Creek"!

Puppies! Kodak 200 Gold through an SMC Takumar 55/2.0 on a Pentax P30T. Digitisation was done by the photo processing people, so I'm afraid can't tell you the settings or anything.

Two samples of the famous Takumar bokeh:

Spirit of Ecstasy:

Harley evo engine:

I was focusing at the head in this case.

Both shots taken with a Takumar 55mm f1.8 (little great lens) at minimun focusing distance and wide open. I used the SPF and Portra 160.

great examples of the takumar qualities
BTW how did you scan these shots - the colours are very pleasant! Their quality resembles somehow the scans I got once from a Jessops back in 2009.. (making a mental note to myself: need to find that roll and re-scan some of the better shots )

You should ask Boots...I go there, I drop the rolls and the day after they give me 7X5 prints and CDs for £8.50.

To be honest I think they do a decent work but their minilab ALWAYS cuts me part of the frames because it's not optimised for 24x36mm, this is especially true for my Nikon F2 that has a full size viewfinder.

For instance the neg of this pic:

Clearly shows the nose of the car is completely and it's not slightly tilted like on the scans.

Same thing for this Porsche:

The "butt" of the car is not cropped on the negative.

Having said that they are kind and the price is honest...so in the end the quality of the colour is merit of the Takumar in the previous images and in the ones above of the Soviet Helios 81N that is a standard lens I rate better than the Nikkor 50mm f1.8 and f2, the colours it gives are absolutely fantastic.

The Tak IMO is a slightly warm lens because of the thorium rear element, you can especially see in the RR pic that has been taken indoor so under tungsten lights. I also used a Pentax skylight filter but perhaps for this lens in the future I'll use a more neutral anti UV.
