Have you tried Silvermax yet, it works great processed as a positive.
Only as a negative. I like it a lot, but having found a tonal solution for CMS 20, prefer it. Silvermax does have great results. Her's a recent Silvermax shot that I'm happy with:

Sensorex II, Soligor 50mm 1.4, Silvermax 100 @100, L110 1+31 7:00

Silvermax is a slightly higher grain than I typically like with a 100 ISO film, but the image character is fantastic.

Looks good!

There are four ways to process Silvermax as far as I know:

1) As a negative in regular chemicals. (Results good)
2) As a negative using the Adox Silvermax dedicated chemicals (Results very good)
3) Crossed processed as a positive (not sure what process or the results, a lab in Stuttgart Germany does it)
4) Processed as a positive using DR5 Chrome in the USA. (results are superb.)

Here are some examples from the DR5 website, my shots are the four on the bottom:

dr5 CHROME - Black and White slide - transparency process FOR ALL B&W FILMS + HIGHEST QUALITY AGFA SCALA-FILM PROCESSING - WORLDWIDE

Some recent "snake" mural shots:

Montreal (ME & M50/1.7 shooting expired Kodak Gold 200)

Vancouver (67II & 67 45/4 shooting Provia 400x)

Excellent shots. I'm sold. I'll be trying that with my next batch. I also need to try it in the Adox developer.

I have been rather disappointed with this roll of Kodak Ektar 100. Camera is Retina 1b (#3). These were shop scanned with lots of dust and scratches, but I wondered if the film had been cross processed. It just didn't seem crisp. I have had better results with 400 ASA. This is the best I could do in PP, and an it is a sad comparison to my Kodachrome shots from 50 years ago.

I think it's more likely to be chemicals that are past their best, or even that there film was badly stored, though unless it's pretty old that seems unlikely.

Perhaps the chemicals, because the film was not old, although because it came from Thailand, it may have been heat stressed..
Here is a slide I took in 1961 with a simple viewfinder triplet for comparison.

I do not shoot many colour photos but here are a few from a trip to Austria/Italy this summer. The first one was on some drug store brand 400 and the rest was on Portra 160. Shot on either an MX or K1000 with I do not know which lens.
