Another failing MZ, that's bad. The low quality of the mz series is one of the reasons I didn't replace my AF Nikons with some MZ-3 bodies and AF lenses. I would if the plastic parts where more reliable in order to have my Pentax family complete: P67 for medium format, program A for MF 35mm and some MZ-3 for AF 35mm was my plan.

While the MZ-3 (especially a black one) is a dream of mine, too, my MZ-5n is an incredible bargain compared to it. I don't care about the faster flash synch on the MZ-3 and 1/4000 shutter speed would be nice to have, sometimes, but 1/2000 isn't too bad either with the rest of the features the same.
If it wasn't for the F 50mm lens attached, I'd really throw it around more and not worry about breaking a camera body that cost me 15€ on ebay. Problem with the MZ-3 would be finding one in the first place and then worrying about it breaking too much, as it costs a lot more than a 1 stop faster shutter speed really justifies. Do yourself a favor and get an MZ-5n, don't worry about the broken flash and a slightly slower shutter. Buy slower, better film from the money you saved and enjoy it while it lasts. When it breaks, get another. Still better than no MZ-3 at all.

+1. I had my MZ-5n from new and took it everywhere for about 10 years. Most of the time with either a FA 28-200mm (Tamron copy), or the 28-70mm F4. Either are a good match for travelling.

I got myself the "S" to replace the "3" as I understand that it is more robust and doesn't have the plastic gears issue. I put 9 rolls of film in it over the weekend and it worked flawlessly! I'll post here when they are developed and scanned. Plus I now have five focus points!

Great composition and subject, and the colors fit perfectly. Textures are great, too. I'd love to see a big(ger) print of this! The right side detail calls for it.

New Camera!

Well, new for me anyway. The MZ-S is a nice upgrade from my broken MZ-3. I now have 5 focus points, it is quiet, and with the 77 Limited, I now only got perfect
focus and exposure with Portra 400, but 37 shots on all 9 rolls of film! I mean all 333 shots came out with wonderful colors and all of them in focus. I attached my first edit. -jim
