I sometimes merge digital photos either as panoramas or for Brenizer-effect photos, but I've never done it with film ones due to the differences in scanning each frame (exposure, colour balance). Just did the same as I do with digital, set up 2 photos in the field, note the frame # in a notebook. After scanning the negatives (I use a Epson V800) import them into Lightroom 6 and merge them there. Seems with film the alignment needs to be more precise, I had setup for 3 pano's on this roll, this photo was the only one that could be merged. Hope that helps.

Guys, is "merging" something that requires Lightroom to do? Can you do this in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro? I have access to a copy of Lightroom but I never use it because I don't quite understand it yet.

You can do it in photoshop manually, a somewhat laborious process, by adding all the images as separate layers with narrow gradient masks for the overlaps, then use rotation and perspective distortion on each layer to match up as best you can. If you used a tripod and level, this is actually pretty easy, just remember to build in adequate lateral overlaps in your framing. The overlaps will be a bit blurry compared to other parts of the pano, but if you build it at hi-res and scale down, that is less noticeable.

Maybe this has been automated since last I did it ~20-years ago.

A shot that didn't quite turn out. Managed to hold the camera steady & didn't back focus too badly — both things I habitually do with this camera — but didn't get quite enough DoF. Possibly a little bit further back to get some more DoF would have been advised.

(You can also spot where the film isn't held entirely flat. It's virtually impossible for me to get a sharp image along the bottom middle of the frame with this camera, even in shots where the corners are otherwise acceptable.

This is definitely not a lens that was designed for colour film, but it's fun to run a roll through from time to time.

You can do it with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, using the Photomerge tool.

Great shots Phil. Elitechrome was great stuff. Hey, I'm thinking this is probably what Kodak will be bringing back to the market soon . . . weren't they forecasting November? So where is it?

Can't wait to get some more of that film.
