As others have pointed out, Tri-X has a wicked curly film base, making it less than ideal for flatbed scanners. Other than that it is a very good film.
I have one roll of Tri-X left, which I'll use at 1600 and after that I'll try Delta 400 at 1600 and see how it does. If it's OK then I'll use that in the future for my high ISO needs instead of Tri-X, purely because of the curling. Delta 400 dries very flat.

Aren't there black & white film emulsions that are rated at 800 and 1600? Why are you pushing 400 speed film so much?

The only B&W film with those high sensitivities that I'm aware of and still in production is Ilford Delta 3200, which is really an ISO 1000 film.

Tri-X pushes to 1600 very nicely - others have pushed it to 3200 or more - the example below is 1600.

I'm thinking of picking up a 100' of Kodak Vision3 250D from the FPP.
A quick forum search doesn't show any replies to the original query... I just read a rave review of this film, and I'd really like to try a roll or two. Anyone seen it in 35mm cassette/120 here in the TO area/available for mail order in Canada?

It's the only one I know of as well.

Otherwise, Kodak tops out at 400; Fuji at 100; Maco* at 400; Foma at 400**; Adox at 100***; Ferrania at 80.

Any other B&W companies I'm missing?

* Covering Agfa, Rollei, and rumoured to also include the JCH film.
** Really closer to 320 or 250, depending on what you develop it in.
*** 160, if you include their B&W reversal film.

Right! Should have remembered that one, as I did shoot several rolls of it. (I may even have pushed one roll to 1600. I should check my notes.)

Don't forget JCH Street Pan 400, though that's way over-priced in my opinion.

Bergger Pancro 400, sp, elicar 35/2.8, lab dev v600 scan. This is the grainiest film I've worked since Kodak Recording Film 2475, and it's not nearly as fast, though with better latitude.

Is that Provia, or just plain Fujichrome?
