Yes it is. I still recall, first time I heard it, I was already a Clapton devotee (and emulator). And I was amazed to hear King playing licks that were the same as Clapton's but King was playing with his thumb, through a relatively clean amp, whereas Clapton used a scritchy-sounding pick, and was playing through a Marshall combo for that overdriven sound. But the licks were the same. Suddenly I realized that Clapton wasn't all that original of a player after all!
Sorry to read that you had to give up your guitar playing. I dunno what I'd do if I had to. Almost exactly 12 years ago, I suffered a rather severe injury to my right hand, which knocked my classical guitar technique for a loop. It's been a long, slow road back, and I don't know if I'm ever gonna get all my old technique back. So, I know what you're going through -- or have gone through. What about taking up another instrument? You know, something I do a lot of now is music composition. I don't necessarily play the tunes I write either, which I actually find very liberating -- no longer limited by my own abilities or technique. Just my imagination. I use a few different pieces of music software for this.
