I just got my Pentax SV back from a trip to see Eric, and am currently about 2/3 way through a "test" roll in it. Yesterday, I was going through photos I made with the SV, and I decided to rescan this frame from 2011. This was the 2nd frame I shot with this camera, right after I first got it.

I think the fact that you have to work out the exposure yourself (whether with an external meter, or otherwise), seems to help with the quality of each frame from a meter-less camera. On the other hand, that lack of convenience can make the roll of film seem much more difficult to finish...

It can definitely help you slow down at first and think about the photo more. Between my 67 and the SV, I definitely learned a lot about reading light and shooting with no meter at all. In 2011, I started having more trouble using my hands, and I couldn't really operate my external meter, so I just learned to shoot Sunny 16. After awhile it kinda becomes 2nd nature and doesn't really slow you down at all. I just looked (out of curiosity) and pretty much every photo I've done so far in 2018 was done using an unmetered camera, and maybe 2% were metered using an external meter. I do have some shots on unfinished rolls in my Pentax 645 and Contax G2 that were shot with Aperture Priority AE...

I've been shooting using my "mind-meter" more and more as well, though not nearly to the extent you do. It's rather freeing in a way.
I also thinks it helps that you know Ektar like the back of your hand at this point.

Hehe... knowing the film you're using really well definitely helps... and Ektar is kinda like having a variable speed 25-400 ISO film.
Oddly (for me) I haven't shot much Ektar this year... I've been shooting a lot of Fuji C200 and Superia 400, and more B&W film.

Super Takumar 55mm 1:1.8 attached to an Pentax ME-SE. The ME combined with a super Tak makes a nice walk around camera. You just have to get around not having open aperture metering and composition. Kodak Ektar 100
