in the meantime... here's one from my grandpa as well on Kodachrome (attached, 2nd photo of the fallls). Not a clue which camera he was shooting at the time, and my dad has no idea since he would have been 2 years old at the time! There's a number from this Yosemite trip. I think I posted one from the tunnel viewpoint on Wanona Rd a year or two ago. Amazed how these hold up.

---------- Post added 07-17-18 at 05:44 PM ----------

The other (first shot) is from me last years and is at the top of Mirror Lake. The spot your grand-dad's pic was taken, Colton ( @Swift1) from would be on the other side and about a good 100-200 yards back down the trail (to the left). There's a trail to the lake on both sides of the river, but you can't cross until about 2 miles further up (to the right) unless you wade, possibly swim. The rock face in the background here is the lower part (crazy to imagine) of the Northeast side of North Dome.
It was my first time in the park last summer. It's definitely one of the few places that the phrase "photos don't do it justice" is true by orders of magnitude. I'd seen so many photos over the years and I thought I understood what it would be like.... boy was I wrong.

Very cool!
I'd put lots of money on that being Mirror Lake with Half Dome on the right in the background. It's not reversed. (Was there last summer).
Cool thanks. I was at Mirror Lake in 2010, and I remember it very differently

Both cool photos!
Yes, Yosemite is definitely one of those places that photos can never really capture what it's like to be there in person.

This Yosemite-ness brought me back to the marginally OK rolls from last year.
This is a scanned and joined 3-frame stitch of Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite from last summer. It was ridiculously hot the entire week. Relentlessly hot. Perspective is interesting when you get film frames into ICE and try to find the right one. I suppose I intended to "cover" the skyline, but didn't really intend to join it... hence a new perspective. There's plenty of distortion here but that doesn't always matter in these cases. Most of the film I brought on this trip was very expired and it didn't fair so well in the heat of that 2.5 weeks either, but even still... This *very* expired Velvia 100F has shifted warm and sometimes magenta on me many times before (I bought a large lot of it several years ago) and oftentimes I learn to like it... this is one of those times.

This was almost certainly shot at 1/1000 to try and freeze the action, and the shallower depth of field and very quick focusing meant I very slightly missed focus. (The woman in the foreground on the left is definitely sharper than the one jumping.)

Still, I caught the bubble bursting. Even if I did have to crop heavily to remove most of a group of people in the foreground on the right.

Spotmatic II.
Super-Takumar 50mm f1.4. (At least, that's my guess.)
Agfa CT Precisa 100.

I didn't even know that the 50 had been released in 120 format. Interesting...

(Glances at the piles of 120 yet to be shot.)

Errr... Maybe eventually.

Yeah I've got a few to work through. Hopefully this weekend I'll do 2.

Bit of a mystery here: I picked this film up at a flea market a while back, and I don't properly know what it is.

Here is what I do know: it came in a plain yellow and black Kodak box with an expiry date of 1988; the gummed paper band holding it closed stated that it was to be developed in C-41 chemistry, was rated at ISO 400, and that the order and/or identification code for it was "XO-718"; and the backing paper had "Special 120" printed on it.

Special for what? I don't know. Searching for either "Kodak XO-718" or "Eastman XO-718" gave me no useful information.

Since I didn't know what it was, I shot it without any filters and hoped for the best. That the colours came out relatively normal — a bit of a yellow cast, but significantly better than less expired films I've shot — was as much a surprise to me as anything.

Meopta Flexaret Va.
Belar 80mm f3.5.
Kodak XO-718.

CiniStill also has a b&w (double-x) film that I did not know about. My local film store had some in stock, so I got a couple rolls in 135. Very expensive like the rest of the CiniStill stuff. ($16.26 CDN per roll of 36)

The b&w film is rated at 250 IOS in daylight and 200 ISO in tungsten lighting.

Phil.
