I'm back with a rarity for me, a straight portrait:

This was a part of an activity I was running for a university class. The other shots on the roll were taken by my classmates, I might post them when I can give them proper credit (I don't remember who took what picture). It went well, except I had to get a bit stern with a few of them because they didn't listen to me. All part of becoming a teacher, I guess, even if they should know better as nominal adults.

The roll came out of the tank very clean, maybe the cleanest roll I've ever done except for the first frame which was a duplicate anyways. Shoved it too far into the spool and it had some creases. Ah well.

I'm actually thinking of selling my 6x7 for an RB67. The slow flash sync on the Pentax doesn't jive well with what I plan to do with medium format. That lens will be hard to give up, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Nice portrait, but I am wondering which lens it is that you will not like giving up when you switch to RB 67. I used to do weddings with RB 67. It always felt substantial hanging around my neck.

Get an RZ67, that’s the best camera I’ve ever used, shorter than large format. It’s an absolute joy working with it and looking through that huge waist level finder, specially for portraits. I only wish film was cheaper, specially the scanning part.

There are a couple leaf shutter lenses for the Pentax 6x7 system that have flash sync speeds up to 1/500. The 165/4 LS is a superb lens for portrait work. I've done a lot of studio work with my P6x7's and the slower flash sync is not an issue when you are using/triggering studio lighting.

I'd also take a look at the older 90/2.8 LS as well, before you switch MF systems.

Phil.

Ah yes a lens with a maximum aperture of f/22.8 would be really handy....

Thanks, Phil.

It's fine. You just need a really powerful flash.

I did look at the leaf shutter lenses for the Pentax, but I'm generally moving more towards what the Mamiya offers in terms of rotating/removable film backs, waist level finder, etc.

I do think the Pentax is a great camera, and some of my favourite photographers have used it (not that that matters all that much), but I need a change of pace, some new challenge.

I may end up donating to the site (shoulda already) so I can list it here. Officially it is not for sale right now, though. I'm almost done my teacher training and that takes priority over any wheeling and dealing.

I should also have some new 35mm work soon, too.
