How are you metering?
Do you scan yourself?
metering through the in-camera meter.

I have outsourced the scanning, it's done at the time of development.

Have you asked your lab about the brownish tint? It might just be down to the preferences of the person who scans.
Sorry for being imprecise about my metering question, what I actually meant was how are you rating the film? Box speed or something else?

I should inquire about that, although through the rest of the roll, some of them are more accurate. I am also using uncalibrated monitors. It's difficult to get ahold of anyone at that lab right now, i'm just happy they're still processing film.

No worries - they were shot at box.

Same same but different - Pentax MX, A35-105, Portra 400. I don't mind the colours in this one.

I can imagine. My local lab has stopped development completely for the time being.
Not surprising since they're more a camera shop that still has a C41 machine running.
I've inquired about a curbside drop off/pick up but I can imagine it's just not worth the trouble for them right now.

Considering the brownish tint, there is a possibility you're slightly underexposing your shots. Especially if you're using a center-weighted in-camera meter.
Try rating a roll of Portra 400 @ 320 and see what happens. I like to err on the side of overexposing Portra, even though I'm not one of those people who purposefully overexposes by 2 stops.

That being said, scanning and post-processing has a very big influence on how your final image is going to look obviously.
I'd consider talking to the lab eventually and to lay out your problems with the colors. Hopefully they're accommodating and willing to work with you.
If not, you might want to get into the joy of home scanning ;-).

If you want to mail your films across the continent, i can recommend my lab

I'll absolutely try Portra 320, i'll post the results when they're available.

I do plan on doing some home scanning in the long term, I've just been a little cheap to pull the trigger on a halfway decent scanner. It'll happen, if only because i plan on going through some of my boxes of negatives. There's a euro trip from about 20 years ago that i'd like to be able to share with others.

Thank you for your time and help!

so, this camera is a work in progress, learned some already, next roll should be better. Or, at least, less bad...
Ikonta 521-16, Ektar 100.
