On September 8th 2020, a wildfire went through our little valley and destroyed half the town I live in (Talent) and continued on a destroyed half of the next town (Phoenix) down the road. We were evacuated, and had no idea what was happening in town, or if our house had burned down. It was one of the most stressful nights of my life. In the morning we learned that our house was safe, but nearly everything across the street a block away had burned down. To this I am so thankful every day that our house had survived.
Since driving back to our house almost a week after the fire, I haven't had enough strength to go out (because of ALS) so for the past 7 months I haven't really seen anything of what the fire did. A few weeks ago I kinda forced myself to go out to shoot a test roll of film in a camera I recently acquired, and so for the first time I really saw some of the fire damage. There is a lot of rebuilding happening, but there is still a huge amount of fire debris around.
This photo was taken about a block away from my house, and everything around there looks like this.
I still grieve for all the people and families that lost their homes and nearly everything they owned that day.
