Nothofagus is a Gondwanan genus and today it can be found across south eastern Australia, Patagonia, New Zealand and so on. They’ve also found lead and pollen fossil records in Antarctica.
Ahh, I'm familiar with Nothofagus species, only seen N.obliqua and N.antartica in UK, they get commonly grouped as Southern beeches
