Thanks for the link to the video. I watched that movie on TV many many years ago. Didn't realize the original movie was shot in such wide aspect ratio. Looks very nice.

How times change...

How times change. I was just at Whyte Cliff Park over the weekend. I've also been scanning in old film slides that my parents took in the 60's and 70's. By chance I found a photo my Dad took which is almost the same as I took over this past weekend! Here is Whyte Cliff Park circa 1967 and now in 2009 respectively;

1967 - taken with a 1964 Spotmatic, lens unknown, Kodak Kodacrome film slide.

2009 - taken with a Super Program, M 28mm f/3.5, Superia 400.

Very nice Nester. I really like vanishing point pictures. Leaves lots to my imagination.

I find that you can get much smoother shots by turning off unsharp masking when scanning (otherwise it really exaggerates grain), and scanning in 48 bit colour. If a lab's doing it, you're SOL with the .jpg's they give you, as they'll likely hit 'AUTO TONE' and boost the levels of underxposed shots, giving you grainy, high contrast scans.

I've shot a few rolls of ISO 125, and it didn't seem too much smoother than ISO 400. The TMAX/Delta films are, though.
Except at our store. We manually adjust all the images being put to disc from film. It's why we're awesome.

Lovely shots on here, everyone. I should dig out some of mine.

THAT is EXACTLY what I thought when I saw that. I was eight when that movie came out. Somehow, I saw it that year. In a drive in. Dad took us. That scene made quite and impression.

The remains of the Statue of Liberty were shot in a secluded cove on the far eastern end of Westward Beach, between Zuma Beach and Point Dume in Malibu. I used to go to that beach on a regular basis when I was living in LA.

YouTube - Planet of the Apes (Franklin J. Schaffner, 1968)

woof!
That's why that part of the movie made no sense to us New Yorkers.

There are no beaches near the Statue of Liberty, no ocean, and the ocean that WAS shown in the movie was on the wrong side.

More scanning tonight. This one has been hanging on the wall for many, many years and is quite faded now. I may have to re-print it

A 1963 view from Elba Island looking at the Tuscany region of Italy. Taken by a Kodak Retina 1b using Kodak Ektachrome Slide Film.

Another Kodak Ektar shot, on the CVS drugstore scan the scene comes out pink-ish (seems typical of Ektar), and this is with color balance set with PS Elements to make the snow on the branch pure white. As a result there's a bit of color shift in the blues... apparent also in the SMC 100/2.8 shot of a tug boat I posted in the Takumar club.

ES-II, SMC Takumar 28/3.5

Some scanners also impart a magenta cast by default, though that may not be the case in this particular scan.

My 2nd roll, just the first 5 photos I've scanned in so far. Views from Kitsilano and Spanish Banks Beach. It was Very windy and a bit chilly. It made me wonder if they would be any good, lol.
