Well my father and my uncle were both into photography. My father gave me his Speed Graphic 4x5 and a Voightlander Bergheil 2 1/4 x 3 1/4, and my uncle gave me his Exakta. I sold the Voightlander but still have the Exakta and Speed Graphic. They also taught me b&w film processing and printing. Also, my aunt (father's sister) was a medical photographer in NYC and later gave me her cameras, a Pentax H1a and a Nikon F. The Nikon F had the early Photomic finder and a 58mm f/1.4, 55mm f/3.5 Micro and the 105mm f/2.5. I sold the Nikon but still have the Pentax.
Back in those days there was no internet or eBay. You found used cameras at local camera shops, flea markets or in the news paper ads. Then Shutterbug Ads came out and I would search there. Shutterbug Ads was a yellow b&w newspaper rag when it first appeared.
