Steve, I am very happy with the scanner I have. the HP G3010. The software is what really makes a difference. I have been using vue scan and silverfast. Normally I scan with no PP done and so far that seems to work best for me. With scanning my own film, I also have the luxory of blowing up the images to larger sizes.
Thanks for the advice. Most of what I have read agrees with your comments regarding software. My scanner is a Microtek (s400?) flatbed with a "light bar" photo adapter that sets on the bed. It does a great job scanning prints, but is pretty pitiful for slides and negs. The results are generally soft with fairly nasty handling of color and contrast. Perhaps better software would help? I guess I could download the demo versions of Silverfast and Vue Scan and give them a try.

My first ever roll of film

That from my first roll of film. I have been shooting digital for a couple of years before I got the bug.

Kodax TriX 400 - MZ-5n

Even with some exposure compensation or some care to meter for the shadow some of the photos were underexposed.

Cheers,

Luc

Here are some images from my very last roll of film.
ME SUPER with Kodak UltraMax ''800''...I must say that I was very impressed with the DR of this film. I was using it in the middle of a hot sunny day. All images are at F/16 and was able to make use of the ME Supers 1/2000 shutter speeds. I basically set the 40F/2.8 lens to hyperfocal and went street shooting. What a blast.

Here are a few from the new guy. All were shot with ME Super and Vivitar Series 1 zoom lens. Either Kodak or Fuji ASA 100 film (most likely; I don't recall for sure). Only "photo chopping" was to the Washington Monument sky; very hazy the day I shot & had a friend chop in the blue sky.
