Thanks guys, that's good to know. The bidding went a little higher than I expected, but I ended up getting it for $78. Looking forward to giving it a workout.

less than what I paid for mine. if its in good shape, you got a great deal. it will give you PF wide open in high contrast situations (maybe even in not so high contrast situations) but even wide open its really sharp. its a bit heavy, so you may have to get used to that as well.

My Super A

This is my Super A with Motor A attached.

The Motor A use 6 AA cell that make the motor heavy as brick. One nice feature of the motor A is that it has a vertical shutter release button.

Regards,

I have a Super Program that I bought in the mid-80's. It was my primary camera for years. I never wanted a different camera until the PZ1P came out (which I never bought). The Super Program carried me right up until the early shift to a digital P&S, and right through to my purchase of my K10D. It's a wonderful, capable camera. I had mine paired with a Vivitar Series 1 28-105 and a Series 1 70-210 (V3). Also had a few other lenses but those two were primary.

You know, I almost didn't bid on this lens because it's not the first on my SMC-A list - last actually - but I just couldn't pass up the chance to get it if it delivered what was promised. $107 shipped in cherry mint condition with the hardcase and strap, both like new. I've seen well-used copies of the lens alone go for over $150 so it at least felt like a great deal.

I got the first roll (Ilford XP2 400) out of the Super Program developed and scanned last night. I'm quite happy with the results

Sweet picture, I just love the way film roll up to the highlights and then gently curls back down again.

Not the : close, close, close … burnt, burnt, burnt… of digital

SuperProgram/SuperA is my favorite film camera too. I like the silver one better, but the black one looks very cool too. Hard to decide which one to keep:
Do you also prefer the silver, in the ME Super ?

Yes, I prefer the silver one 'cause it matches my silver FA limiteds better

Pimped Out Super Program

Here's my Super Program with an El-Cheapo 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom and the ME II winder! I love this camera and somehow the clunky, tactile feedback of the winder is very cool and fun.

Note also the authentic Pentax "Hippy" Strap! I was indeed a child of the 1970's and 1980's!

The ME II winder, even if it's turned off (or if the batteries are worn out, etc.) is still so nice to use simply just for the handling, and that's on any M or A body that it fits. (Furthermore, I personally prefer the feel of the ME II over the Motor Drive A on the Super Program/A.)

And don't forget that totally groovy strap! That and a pair of bell-bottoms makes a time-machine!

Heehee. That motor looks pretty nice. I don't think I've ever actually seen one. These cameras are so light that I don't think the six cells would bother me. (The Canon A-series opposite number is crazy-heavy on AA's, more like eight or twelve, but the Nicd pack was more manageable. Had kind of a neat trigger-ish vertical release, though. )

Yeah an old film Pentax doesn't begin to match the weight and heft of a K20D with a DA*16-50 or 50-135 hanging off the end,

But then, my old Pentax K1000 with the Vivitar 75-205 zoom was pretty formidable to encounter.

I just picked up a Motor Drive A from KEH for my Super Program. EIGHT (8) AA batteries in that sucker. It definitely makes the setup heavy, but with the A70-210/4 mounted it actualy is more comfortable with the drive than without. Having the portrait orientation shutter release is nice as well.
