Looking for service manual: MZ-5n and MZ-50

Hello all..

I have MZ-5n and MZ-50 that mirrors won't work. The MZ-50 advances when I put the batteries in; I guess this is the sign of stuck mirror? I assume it is a fixable condition?

I wonder if anyone here have the service manual? There are few old threads here about stuck mirror, but I can not find any info on the service manual.

Thanks.

if you dig through the MZ-5n posts here within the past few months, there was a service diagram somewhere

I believe it is the site Pentax Imaging, where they have the old manuals online

Pentax Manuals
Thank you. They are user manual, not a service/repair manual. It is a useful link to know, though.

Thank you. I've looked at their database, they have fairly extensive collection on camera repair manuals but there is none for ZX-5.

Are you referring to this post?

After searching on the web, I found several service manuals of Pentax cameras, for:

K1000
Super Program
Spotmatic
MX
ME
K2

Follow this link if you're interested

Email John - he may be able to find one for you. He constantly travels to camera shows and has sources all over the (probably) world.

The diagram does not include motor/mirror scheme. I guess I have to contact Pentax service to request reprint of the diagram that includes motor/mirror system.

Hi CGJung,

I have the same problem with my MZ50. I ask a Pentax technician about. He told me that it's a weakness of olds MZ50. The cog set in the motor axis that brings down the mirror is made of plastic. Whereas the axis is made of metal. Then the cog and the motor axis become no more joined.

That was his explanation. Do you still need a service manual ?

Azrael,

Thank you for offering. Bob Bimon has repaired his MZ-5 and sent me the photo tutorial of steps, I don't think I need the service manual to repair my MZ-5. But if you have a copy of it and will share it with me, I'll be happy to receive it.

BTW, I still haven't fixed my MZ-5, because I just got another MZ-5 with grip in a very good condition at a bargain price.
