? on Yashica Dental Eye II

There is a local sale. The seller does not know much to tell me.

Question: can the lens be separated from the camera?

It's OK if it's Yashica mount. It's inexpensive enough I can experiment with mount surgery.

Thanks.

AFAIK the lens can't be removed.

It is a specialty variant of the Yashica Electro 35, a fixed-lens rangefinder.

Bummer! That lens would make a nice 100mm macro.

Thanks, folks, for the info.

I just told the seller that I'd pass.

Do consider giving a regular version of the YE35 a try if you run across one in good condition at a reasonable price (I have four of them!).

Hear, hear.

I had a new 35GS back in the early 70's. Now I'm using a Canonet QL17 GIII but am still on the look out for a good YE35 that does not cost an arm and a leg.

I have been watching one of these going on ebay as well. However, the one I was looking at appeared to be an SLR. Kyocera / Yashica Dental Eye II Camera 35mm SLR - eBay (item 150334708336 end time Mar-31-09 18:43:57 PDT)

Interesting to be hearing good things about the YE35's.... I'm currently talking to a guy selling a K1000 and a YE35. My K1000 was on loan from an uncle and now I'm in the market for another (or something comparable). The YE35 looks cool and I've never played around with an RF before. The pictures are weak but both look good. He's asking $20 a piece. I believe I'm going to jump on both of them.

Sasquatch,

I did some more research after posting the question. The Dental Eye II comes as a unit. The body is SLR alright, but it is not separatable from the lens without major surgery.

I would jump on a YE35 for $20. If you don't buy it, let me know. In fact, if you don't want a YE35 but a K1000, just buy the YE35. I have a good K1000 body (in fact, I have 3) that I can swap for a YE35.

SOldBear,

Thanks for the advice and offer. I am hopefully going to check out the cameras in the next few days. I'll be sure to update you or this thread after I go see them.

We're awash in YE35s over here in Japan. I didn't pay more than about $15 for any of mine. Two GS, one GSN, and one GTN.
