How much have you used film before?

If you look down you will find that thanks to Wheatfield you now have one leg substantially longer than the other.

I believe that Wheatfield is implying that he took up photography in the mid to late 1800's (though the horseless carriage quip suggests the latter part of that time period, by which point roll film should have been available).

I started using film in my parents' cameras in the early '90s (mainly a Konica rangefinder, occasionally a Spotmatic). My Grandfather gave me a K1000 around 1996 and I used that until late 2007 when I picked up a K10d. I have now retired the K1000 in favour of a KX and continue to shoot some film alongside digital.

Aside from a cell phone the closest I ever got to digital is Polaroid. That was when I was a kid back in the 60's. I thought instant prints were amazing. Then I got my 1st decent slr film camera while in the service, a AE-1 Canon. Been shooting with different camera's & enjoy it. Never shot with a Pentax, but now have a Spotmatic my stepson gave me.

I'm an old guy

So I started with film with my Ricoh KR-5 I purchased new in 1980, bought my first digital ( Minolta DiMage S404 ) in 2002, and my first Digital SLR in 2007. But I am getting a little bit back into film, found a few old rangefinders in my pops basement, and have shot two rolls through his Petri 1.9, cool stuff !! And I still take the old reliable Ricoh with me when I go fishing...

Growing up, my parents always said film was expensive and every shot cost money. So as a kid, I took maybe...100 shots until I was about 16 and got my first digital camera (2.1MP whatchu know about that?

)

Digital-only till about mid-08 and can only recollect taking one (1) film pic from 02-ish till 08 (not counting "burning off" ends of rolls for customer's OTU cameras while pointed into my shirt). Planned my move to Pentax around digital AND film usage. Finally started using more film as of recently.

So I'd say I'm right on the border of "bit of film" and "film to digital."

Started with film in the '70s, processed & printed all my own stuff. Was an early adopter of digital in the late '90s and now shoot both. I miss Polaroid, though.

I fall into this catagory;
bit of film before -> digital -> film

My Dad loved photography. As early as I can remember, about 1975, I watched him in the darkroom develop film from his 1964 Spotmatic. I played around with film a bit however, I never really go into photography until 2002. My first digital was a Oly D-510 2.1MP with 8MB card. Next was a big jump to a Nikon CP-5700 with grip and SB-80 flash and 2x 256MB cards. Several dSLRs later I just switched to film and will stay as long as I can with it.

I guess if we're talking long-term history (I was born in '72): film (126) -> film (35mm) -> digital (prehistoric) and film (disposable cameras) -> digital (P&S - 2mp) -> film (35mm - OM2n) -> digital (K10d) -> the present: film + digital (K10d, ME Super, LX, Spotmatic, and anything else I can get my hands on).

Whew.

It's kind of neat to see so many who've gotten into film after starting with digital, though.

I'm kind of a late adopter of the digital stuff, myself.

Film Point and Shoots through the early 1980's and then picked up my first K1000 and played with it for a year or so before it got stolen. Then Point and Shoots again, eventually going to digital really early since I am in the tech field - I think my first digital was something like .36 megapixel... Still have a digital point and shoot (Canon powershot) and the better half has a Canon DSLR. I decided I wanted another K1000 and put together a couple bodies and a box of lenses over time between craigslist, ebay, and thrift stores.

As convenient as digital can be, there is something about film that draws me back to it.

i need to read better ... still i'm sure there are some crazies using plates
