My hooby is seeing my cameras ...simply i want to collect MF film Pentax body,...i often only use MX
Nice hobby, I just got an ME Super for what I consider pennies given the quality obtained, and my wife in response said "so much??" (£24)
Still it was ok to buy the rubbish Finepix for £200... And even more ok spending £400 for the plastic EOS450D...
Now she starts liking the ME Super and asked me to teach her to use it

Anyway, she would definitely kill me if I'd arrive home one day with all those ones!
...but little by little...

Great collection anyway, congrats!

(in my plans, a black ME super, an ME super SE, LX, MX, KX, Super Program, Spotmatic SPII, Honeywell ES II)

thanks mate, but truth be told it won't look that good for long. I have a habit of wearing things out. it will be more brass than paint long before it ever leaves my possession. but the great thing about original black paint bodies is they can always be repainted and look brand new. not sure ill do that though. I prefer things to look worn, but I like to do the wearing myself.

Beautiful, really. And I envy your lens

Do you have a cap on the flash output on the body? (right of the body in the photo)

If you mean the x-synch socket beside the lens, then yes.

It makes my heart happy to see there are people still using film cameras! Nothing beats the anticipation of waiting for how the pictures came out. Oh, and the quality of B&W prints from "real" negatives.

well here's mine, I know there's a few of these in this thread already but anyway:

<EDIT>
seems my linking didn't work, how about this:

My history with Pentax

Hi everyone

I'm just getting back into photography after an absence (well, absence from SLR) of about 4 years.

My first SLR was the Pentax MZ-50 which my parents bought for me when I was 17. Great camera - so easy to use and fun too. Before I had that I was just using any old point-and-shoot I could get my hands on ... mainly cheap ones! lol

About four years ago I switched to digital point-and-shoot (Pentax Optio-10), but just recently tried to resurrect my MZ-50 - unfortunately there seems to be something wrong with the shutter.

So I started using my husband's MZ-60 which is not much different to the MZ-50. And then the shutterbug bit kind of hard so I visited the ebay marketplace (uh-oh) and found an MX.

I just got it today and it's gorgeous! It came pre-loaded with Velvia 50-18 (any pointers on shooting with this?) and two rolls of B&W and a red filter. 50mm lens which I'm already loving.

Anyway, that's me, I'll be around the forums, they seem really interesting.

Welcome to the forums, Rocky, and you'll surely enjoy an MX.

Do you mean 'pre-loaded' as in there is a partially used roll of Velvia in it? If so, my advice is bin it. (The Velvia, not the MX. ) Sometimes eBay sellers, if they're young enough not to know film, or just careless or in a hurry, will open the back to see what condition the inside is in (a good instinct, generally) and find film unexpectedly, but then re-close the camera with it still in there, not knowing or not caring that this has ruined the film, and make no mention of having done so. Given the possibility of this, and the higher cost of processing E-6, that's why I'd say bin the partially used film rather than pay to process it and maybe get rubbish. Unless you have such morbid curiosity to try to see what the prior owner might have on that roll!

If you meant a fresh roll then of course shoot it...eventually. You can easily Google a lot of information about Velvia. Beautiful stuff, very punchy colors, good for landscapes, etc., but not tolerant of mis-exposure, so not necessarily the best choice for the first roll in a camera whose meter performance is as yet unknown to you. You might do well to run a roll of something more pedestrian through it, trying out (and writing down as you go) the full progression of shutter speeds and apertures first, to see whether the shutter speeds are right and the meter accurate.

To follow on from what Argenticien said, if you want to finish the roll but want to test the meter with something cheaper, you can unload the roll by pushing the rewind button on the base of the camera then rewinding slowly with your ear to the camera back. When you hear a "click" as the film leader comes out of the magic needles stop, then take the film out. Don't forget to write down how many frames had been taken, then wind on that many frames when you reload it. Remember to keep the lens cap on when reloading.

And the viewfinder cap! And if you don't have it use black isolating tape to prevent light to filter from it!
